...and they all stink. So what if "everyone" has a Ferrari, there still wonderful pieces of art.

I can't find who the author is? After all his bashing he admits that he's an owner. He just can't stay away.

I can't tell if he's bitter because Ferrari has become elitist 'pop culture' or because his elite Ferrari was spoiled. The way he raves about only classy celebs having them it seems that he's miffed the nobles aren't the only ones who've gotten their hands on them.

He rants against the marketing of "The Lifestyle" (as any who visit Ferrariworld.com see they really do), but then longs for the old school elite Ferrari lifestyle that the same marketing tries to capture.

In the end he just sounds jealous.

    BTW - The 348 he dubbed the "Testa-tossa" - which means Testa-wanker or Testa-masturbator. He's mocking it.

The author's name is Martin Buckley. Click on 4Car in the upper left hand corner. article entitled just bought a Ferrari, but he's still struggling with being a 'Ferrari man' He does make some good points about F cars becoming too commonplace and low lifes owning them vs. class and style. In the end you always come back to the Fcar.

400 GTs were NEVER cool. That's why you can buy them all day long now for less than a used Ford Escort!

Gee I love you too. Guys just bought a Ferrari and you put the boot in ... and we are giving the author a hard time!!!!

I personally like the restrained styling of the 365 GT/4 2+2s and 400 GTs ... fast cars do not have to look like they are fast, just go fast ... and they go fast enough!

Yep everyone has got arse holes ...

    Pete
ps: I appologise to the poster on FChats behalf for that inconsiderate post. Enjoy your 400GT, and there are many of us that love them.

Restrained styling might not be the correct way to describe the car...shockingly bland and banal might be more appropriate. It is a nice car in all other respects, though.

There are a lot of morons who do not understand the marque.
Not all Ferraris were designed to look like daytona's or have the characteristics of bb's.
Are you familiar with the term 'gran turismo' ?

I love that line of his where he calls the window over the 360 engine "automotive porn".

I guess that's the kind of porn I really do like, even if he doesn't.

Funny how he likes the "understated elegance" of the Maserati, yet here there are continuing complaints that the new Ferraris, 550/575 in particular, are too bland.

his point is only valid if you go back to about 1965 ferrari. back then production runs were high if they exceeded 500, with most models having about 200 made with plenty of variations along the line (largely due to parts availability). so it truly was a special car not for the most people, even if they had the money. firstly it was a hassle, so if all you wanted was unfettered sporting action you could also get a porsche or merc (like today, but double the hassle because there weren't too many dealers).

but they became symbols of playboy racers and everything that goes with that.
nowadays the total ferrari production run borders on 10,000 units/yr, and they are actually reliable.
so the image is still there, and now the hassle factor is greatly reduced - enter the great unwashed with checkbooks in hand. (another major side factor is that there are 20 years worth of cars out there that still run and have cache like the 3xx, so you end up seeing more in total than in the the 60's when there just wasn't that build up of inventory).

the other thing that colors his opinion is that he either lives or spends time in central london. i can tell you from living here for about 10 years that next to monaco in summer, london is ferrari central. i have seen every model nearly every day i go outside, multiple times. the concentration of wealth here is incredible and the city boys love their cars. it does seem after a while that if you don't have the latest 360sc or 575m you might as well not be out at all.

as others have already pointed out though, despite his complaints, he has one too ! so however reluctant he may be, he still has the disease!

Wow! I'm glad he only saw ONE Barbie!! Who knows how he would have responded if he'd known the Racer Barbie was followed by...

Street Driver Barbie and then she was followed by...

Gala Barbie, complete with ball gown and matching Tiara!

My daughter Amanda has 'em all, together with the 355 Spider remote controlled car! She bought the car herself before Santa could get her one!

The Tiara blows off at about 110MPH! LOL!

PS Interesting to note that the final one was a brunette!!!!

While I agree with all the bashing of this guys article, a few of you were incorrect on the picture. It is a Testarossa not a 348. You folks must have bad resolution or something ;)

He seems to have bought the "stereotypical" Ferrari owner crap. None of my friends in the FCA are middleage posers in need of a peniz extension. We are all car guys & mostly track guys. I know there are Ferrari people like what he is discussing but its not me & I'm sure its not the people on Fchat either

Ferrari may be the world's best known brand name now & yes its marketing its name just like Harley Davidson & Coca Cola, It would be rather dumb not to. After all Ferrari is a capitalist enterprise & they need to make $ for their corp owners.

This guy is pining for the days of Enzo in the 50s. Those days are gone forever & they arent coming back so get used to it

    Well said, also my experience.

Chap seems awfully concerned about what others will think of his choice in cars.
