The lower housing does take some manipulation to remove without dropping the whole lower dash.

The trick is to release the tilt lock on the left side of the steering column to allow access for the cluster and the upper cover. There is 2 8mm bolts that secure the tilt lock bracket.

    1. Remove the forward 8mm, closest to the wheel on the left side of the upper column. it is the one with the Grey airbag harness connector bracket attached under the same bolt.

    2. Aprox 2" back is another 8mm attached to a plate that runs between the 2 bolts. Just loosen this bolt slightly to allow the column to drop giving you clearence to remove the cluster and the upper cover.

Trick to reinstall : Tighten the rear column lock bolt enough to rotate the front end of the bracket back in line with the bolt hole. This way you can reinstall the bolt and airbag harness bracket together.

    I hope this helps.

This is really tricky to get out but if you don't loosen that screw you cannot pull the cluster out over the steering wheel guts. It's a pain to get to that screw but once you loosen it the steering wheel drops down and cluster slides right out. Be careful not to scratch face of cluster with the 2 protruding screws that stick above steering wheel assembly! Put a microfiber towel over it when pulling out! Good luck! There have been other threads on how to do this, I believe one is a sticky on how to change the RPM gauges!
