That's my favourite offshore racer of all time. Bob Saccenti (The throttleman) is still going strong, there's a really nice interview with him here:

    https://seriousoffshore.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29637

BTW, think Ben Kramer is now paroled, he organised the hit on Don Aronow:

    https://www.powerandmotoryacht.com/boats/history-cigarette-founder-don-aronow

When I was in the USA I met Reggie Fountain and subsequently had conversations with Bob Saccenti, these people are seriously approachable and love telling stories of the great monohulls back in the day. The racers were much tougher back then because the competetions were further offshore, and longer. Sponsors dictate racing closer to shore and the faster cats suit the calmer waters.

Yeah, they're like old race cars, they were never designed to last past a season. Many of them were seriously underglassed (Especially the Chris Craft) and a fair share of them sank in competition. The ones that survived fell into the hands of people who couldn't afford the upkeep, but wanted to live the dream. Just like the automotive equivalent of a 308 in the 1990. They are not be treated a pleasure boat, because to most people they are unpleasant. Noisy, rough and not a lot of room. And you'll be lucky to get more than 2.0 mpg at 70 mph. But there's few things more exciting and really the last bastion of high performance unrestricted unregulated fun.

Most of the boat scenes in Miami Vice were shot using a Chris Craft Stinger 390X. I think it's a beautiful hull.

I think if I had the choice I'd buy a Donzi 43 ZR. It's big enough you could take it away for a weekend, stay aboard and not feel hemmed in. And plenty fast enough:

I'm not into cats but this is one of my favourite boat scenes from any movie. I don't know what's more impressive, the boat at speed or Colin Farrell in the same tub as Gong Li. Incredible:

I recall seeing this Michael Mann masterpiece in the cinema and nearly ripped the arm rests out of the chair when Crockett fastened Isabella's seat belt.

I'd pass then - I don't do BJs on whomos. I'll leave that for Rob.

Thank goodness Greg has sufficient sartorial splendor that he'll add some sense of style to the occasion.

I think that Donaldson book was one of the most enjoyable F1 driver life stories I've read.
