Here's another rare car I saw out in the wild (same area - Pescaderao, CA) back in late November, 2021. The red car is mine (before I restored it back to its original color of verde pino). The yellow car is Ferrari 275 NART Spyder, and the Cobra is not a kit.

The owner of the 275 said it was authentic, not a conversion. Only ten of those were ever made, and I've heard that four of them are here in the Bay Area of California (but not 100% certain of that). I have seen two converted cars, and this one certainly looked authentic in comparison to those (but I'm not expert).

The owner of the 289 Cobra also said it was authentic, and one of my Cobra enthusiasts confirmed that was indeed accurate.

That is chassis #09437, the first of the 275 GTS/4 NART Spyders. Raced by Denise McCluggage and Marianne Rollo at Sebring, and then painted burgundy and used in the Steve McQueen/Faye Dunaway film, The Thomas Crown Affair. 1 of only 2 with alloy body, the other being the second 275 GTS/4 NART Spyder built, chassis #09751.

One of those red Italian things.

If I’m not mistaken it was at Shelton’s in maybe mid-late ‘90s.

I think it still had the Sinclair…or maybe Pure…pit sign in the trunk.

Very surprised to see this car or should I say absolute icon I drove for Octane 4 years ago appear in California on Ca plates by the side of the road in a low key situation; it is based in Connecticut and normally only comes out for very special occasions.
The wooden trunk floor is the car's standard one but if you lift it there are chalk marks dating back to Sebring 67 when it was used as pit board.

People in the Bay Area seem to take their ultra rare and valuable cars out for drive every now and then—there's some beautiful drives around here! And, since I go out for drives regularly (and most of us take similar routes), I tend to be in the right place at the right time more often than not. For example, here's another rare one I ran across on Thanksgiving day in 2018…

The owner of that 250 California also owned this Maserati and Alfa Romeo, he and his family were taking the cars out for a coastal drive. Wish I had a better photo of the Alfa, but you can see its nose just behind the Maserati.

I've also run across F40s, F50s, McLaren F1s, and just about anything else you can think of. It's crazy seeing these very special cars just out on a drive with all the normal cars around, it definitely doesn't get old and still surprises me every time I run across something rare and beautiful like these.

Thank you for those shots. It is wonderful that they/you drive them and the key element is great traffic free roads. I sampled the California back roads quite a bit years ago including a whole 160 mile touring rally in pontoon fendered Testa Rossa #0748 for a Cavallino article, on great mountain roads and that was memorable:)!

You don't see much such use of great classics in the southern half of Florida for example where I spent a lot of time because the roads are straight flat and boring or in many parts of the northeast due to congestion but still thank God many owners use them as opposed to sticking to concours.

Here's yet another vintage Ferrari I stumbled upon while out on a drive. Saw this in the wild, thought it was a Ferrari 250 GT SWB, but I'm not 100% certain. I didn't get the greatest shots as we were both driving when I saw the car (and I just stayed on the route I was going as I didn't want to be creepy and stalk him).

This car has a little door that's open just behind each of the front wheels, instead of the "slot" I'd expect to see on a 250 GT SWB. That's what makes me uncertain of the exact model.

    Can anyone identify this one?

Great 2022 xmas card sent by top restorers Paul Russell & Company in Essex, MA/USA, featuring two fabulous good looking classic Ferraris with extensive race history: 1143 GT and 3413 GT. Both of these icons were fully restored and shown at Pebble Beach in August 2022.

I wonder if we will see both 365P together? The Texas owner certainly seems to be active with his 365P.
