Binotto out...Vasseur in ?

Can we at least HOPE for something better? I'll be the contrarian and say it will be better. Fix the pit stops and the crap calls and we are in the hunt based on last year!

A good car by accident...yeah right! How about credit where it's due...Ferrari had the best car out of the box at the start of the season. Worked everywhere! Even with serious porpoising (it looked worse than Mercedes at times), it was highly competitive.

 

Yes. Funny how most of the reporting is about the implied—“sous-entendu”—incompetence at Ferrari but no such thing is mentioned when discussing the obvious implosion at two former British F1 powerhouses, namely McLaren and Williams.

Williams have been flailing for a decade now while Seidl leaving the the supposed racing utopia of Woking must be causing some sort of dissonance for the xenophobes.

 

Fully agree. Especially mclaren is remarkable as they certainly had the funding all these years. Williams made several catastrophic errors since the late 90s that have led to their total downfall.

Ferrari too easy a target?

 

You are absolutely right to point out the obvious decline of McLaren and Williams.
Neither of them quite recovered from losing Newey's expertise in their technical team.

Williams started to go down after they refused the BMW take-over, and the loss of funding.
Then Patrick Head cashed his chips and left, and Williams ended up having to take pay-drivers to make ends meet.

For McLaren, the rot started with the Spygate and the massive fine, driving shareholders against each other.
The Withmarsh era wasn't very good, the loss of Mercedes engines, plus the Honda "experiment" proved disastrous.
Now Zak Brown is diluting the effort by branching into Indycar, and Formula-E, both unwelcome distractions.

Why this doesn't make headlines compared to Ferrari's long saga is due to the fact that neither Williams nor McLaren were elevated to cult status like the scuderia is.
Williams and McLaren's followers have never been fanatics like the tifosi; they accepted the facts and moved on when these 2 teams stopped delivering the thrills. They have already seen plenty of British team shine and then vanish: BRM, Lotus, Brabham, etc ...

At the same time that Williams and McLaren reached the doldrums, 2 new teams emerged: Red Bull and Mercedes.
So the attention was reported on those, and the world still goes round.

 

And the world will still go 'round if Ferrari never win another WCC, but it will be a sadder world... Merry Christmas William!

Point is Schmidt stating the SF-75 was a good car by « chance ».
Which was a bold statement to say the least..

Schmidt probably wanted to convey the fact that, even when Ferrari produce a good car, they are incapable to develop it successfully through the year and maintain its performance. They are equally plagued by tyres problems, internal divisions, wrong strategy, pit blunders, etc ...
But "by chance" was exagerated, I agree.

To be honest, when I saw Leclerc playing around Verstappen at Bahrain early in the year, overtaking the Red Bull with ease, and all the tifosi already thinking the title was won at the first race, I thought to myself: " Too easy, this cannot be true"
The rest of the season proved me right.

 

The small article from AMuS was about the time length speculation of Vasseur vs Ferrari and its environment or expectations of success. The history shows he maybe correct? How long before Ferrari 'Management" no longer find Vasseur acceptable or agreeable. Lets hope they give him a reasonable amount of time. The history shows differently overall. They built a car and its fast. Who cares about that particular context. How long will Vasseur last in the political soup that is Ferrari................

 

Vasseur will be another "fuse" in the Ferrari organisation. We can speculate how long it will last before it blows.

 

He can take his condescension and **** right off.

 

Fundamental strategy is a BIG thing to improve.

Rather than making the team stronger, Red Bull’s Helmut Marko believes Ferrari will now be weaker under Frédéric Vasseur.

After a 2022 campaign that went from great promise to bitter disappointment for Ferrari, Mattia Binotto announced that he would resign as team boss effective as of the end of the year.

The Scuderia later moved to confirm that Vasseur would leave Alfa Romeo to replace Binotto at the helm.

Ferrari were Red Bull’s closest challenger in 2022, albeit an ultimately distant one as strategy and driver errors, plus reliability issues all played major roles in the team finishing 205 points adrift of Red Bull.

But looking ahead, Marko cannot see how this change of team boss will benefit Ferrari, or even allow the team to maintain their current level.

Marko cited the fact that Vasseur has other commitments outside of the Ferrari role, such as Spark Racing Technology, which supplies chassis to Formula E as part of its portfolio, while Binotto could fully focus on Ferrari.

Instead, Marko felt that Ferrari simply needed a sporting director working alongside Binotto to steady the ship.

“In the case of Ferrari, I don’t quite understand the change,” Marko told Auto Motor und Sport. “I consider Binotto to be an excellent technician and politician.

“He was simply overwhelmed by the task. But it would have been enough to put a sporting director at his side to support him at the track and with the strategy. With the new man, who has many other jobs, I see a weakening for Ferrari.”

That being said, Marko is not complaining, as he agreed with the suggestion that the team boss continuity for Red Bull, who have had Christian Horner since the team’s formation in 2005, will be an advantage.

Yes the same for me. I am not a fan of H-Mut. He is probably correct in this assessment. I think Ferrari needed 'adjustment' versus a complete change.

 

Or Ferrari needed a complete change, but a better one and much sooner...before the end of the season.

 

As I have said before Vasseur is the wrong choice for the SF team, he hasnt exactly excelled at AR!!

The long standing problem with Ferrari is that the wrong people take the wrong decisions at the wrong time.

Vasseur needs to clean house and bring in his own people on the pit wall and at the factory. Starting on January 1st.
