Looks like i got the dreaded DCT failure. In my case the symptoms were a little different from many of the other reports I found here.

    2011 458 Italia 11k miles

On the day of the failure, the car would skip a little on light acceleration and was pretty rough with moderate acceleration. I tried switching it to snow mode at a stoplight and take off, but when giving light pedal press, the car made a clunk and would not go. No error lights on the dash. Car won’t engage any gears.

One independent mechanic I talked to said that it is probably one of the gear teeth that broke and it is likely that the whole DCT unit will need to be replaced.

He also advised to be careful when sourcing a new dct as many of the used ones on the market will not work.

Is repair an option if the internal gears are broken?

This doesn't sound like the "dreaded DCT Failure" because that phrase usually pertains to the fairly common failure of the Sensors inside the DCT, yours sounds like something mechanical, i've rarely ever heard of any mechanical failures of these DCT transmissions.

My advise would be call as many Ferrari dealers around you and see which one seems knowledgable with working on these transmissions, then get a diagnosis directly from the dealer, this will at least let you know what the issue is, then you can decide who you will have fix it, an indy or the dealer..

My light tripped just over 6k on the clock. Initially was thought to be the speed sensor $10k ish fix @ dealership, but Ferrari authorized a brand new box to the tune of $40kish installed! Initially the light would simply come on and I would restart to clear it. Then would skip a gear / typically 4th or 5th and then lost all odd gears....
I did have the power warranty and the time, thank God!
OP, do you have the power??

It needs new pressure and speed sensors. This came up during the PPI when measurements were taken.

Transmission Parameters Show High Value on the Odd Clutch Pressure Reading and Above Max Value on the Even Clutch Reading. As per Ferrari Diagnostic Notes, it is advised to replace the pressure sensors.

I can recommend Josh Hill at Exotic Power and Performance in Austin TX. There are wiring kits you can buy depending on what you need. The DCT cannot be properly diagnosed without the proper equipment.

I can't speak to the experience the OP is having as I have not experienced what he is experiencing. I only commented as to what my experience was with the vendor in the video.

If going to a Ferrari dealer for this, try to find/use one who has a car entered in the Ferrari Challenge series. They overhaul DCTs frequently so typically have the most experience with them.

The video states that replacing the sensors without a full transmission rebuild is not advised.

    Did I hear that right?

    Thoughts?

Yea, it's not the typical situation with the gears skipping symptoms since it shifted into every gear just fine until the complete failure happened and no warning lights at any point.

I contacted Boardwalk Ferrari in Texas and also an independent shop in Phoenix. Boardwalk said just based off the description is sounds like a mechanical issue and they've never had to replace a transmission except for one that cracked in half...

Indy said that it probably needs a new one. Haven't taken it anywhere yet.

I am also planning to contact Ferrari San Diego since they have the Challenge Team.

    Unfortunately, I didn't get warranty!

If you're in north Texas, contact Norwood Italia also. I spoke with their mechanic and they have rebuilt several. In fact they had a 458 Italia track experience car in there getting the DCT rebuilt when I picked my car up a few weeks ago.

From what I understand, the costs associated with replacing the sensors is 10 percent parts, 90 percent labor. I am estimating so work with me here. Given all the trouble to crack open the DCT, why not rebuild the entire unit per the video above? The incremental costs are just that - incremental.

Nowhere did I advocate for replacing just the sensors, if that is what is at fault. The shop mentioned said it's about $20k to do the proper rebuild, replacing all the seals and bearings.

You did not advocate that approach, but virtually everyone else does.
I understand the sensor replacement is $10-12K.
20K to do the proper rebuild seems the way to go.

a rebuild is mechanical, why do you need a rebuild if sensors are bad, even dealers who are experienced at changing the sensors won't recommend a trans rebuild if the trans is mechanically fine
