I apologize for the excessive use of technical jargon in my prior post. Yeah, an odd numbered gear (such as third) seems like a good choice because it will move the front shaft forward giving a smidge more clearance while yanking out the rear shaft.
Hi everyone, I'm looking at doing the replacement at my car atm. I saw dimensions of the seals mentioned earlier in this thread being 20 x 28 x 5,5 mm, but that seems a little weird to me. As usually the ID + 2x width should be the OD... Does anyone know the correct dimensions for the quad-ring or the machined groove and shaft dimensions? Nobody in Europe supplies the quad-rings and I'd like to use those.
The quad rings are available in the UK and last time I checked we were geographically in Europe See link for size that fits. I've used these and they fit well. The OD size you have quoted is for the original fitment seal. Quad rings have different ID/OD ratios. https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/O-Ring-Seals-FKM-X-Rings/c4501_8571/index.html?srsltid=AfmBOopjO5UoSPYobaLkEtkoebgCYRueclZQwE7ZuPsOqlA4C_SUmGC_&selection=FKM+Rubber+X-Rings This size is for later 308's and 328's. I understand that early 308's had a different size OD (slightly smaller)
I have the same leak on my recently inherited 82 GTSi. I was wondering, is there anyone who's done a youtube or pictures of the replacement out there? I've done some searching and coming up mostly nil. I'm more prone to DIY stuff when I have a video to reference. Yes, I'm the guy that looks at the pictures, does poorly at comprehension unless I have a visual. lol
No pictures, but a procedure https://unobtainiumsupply.com/Downloads/Service Procedures/Quad shift seal installation tips.pdf
Thank you. I've been reading on this and appreciate all the feedback. Just still not sure if this is a job I'm going to want to undertake yet! Looking around for an experienced mechanic in the Ohio area as well to get a quote/idea. Thanks all,
I replaced my seals with the Unobtainium Xring variety probably ten years ago. No leaks but it took about 500 miles for them to loosen up.
You are in Cambridge? Tomorrow (Saturday) morning is the huge annual Dublin Arthritis Foundation car show. Always lots of Ferrari and other exotics makes there. You should attend and start your local networking amongst the owners there.
Yes, I'm in Cambridge OH in the southeastern corner of the state where interstates I70 and I77 intersect.
Exactly the same, only i did it 14 years ago I changed my gearbox oil 2 weeks ago and no sign of any overflow when I took the gearbox fill plug out.
