Thanks John! Looks great! Please post a pic or two when fully cured. And let me know your thoughts on how durable you think the SEM will be.

    Thank you Allen

    Will do

I used the SEM on the door handles (sans the pull handle) and for those parts, I think you're looking at good lifetime wear with no issues

With the ashtray door and switches which are moving parts which get handled, I think they may actually get better over time since it is a plastic coating, but we will see

Also will see if I put the clearcoat as that would be additional protection

Also, I had to sand down the ashtray top as my first go had a drip, it was as resistant to sanding as the actual plastic part, so seems pretty good.

    That looks great.

I want to have a crack at doing a few of the switches in my car. Do any Europeans reading this know of a good alternative to Krylon? Amazon have it, but it's >£20 a can(!)

Thank you Allen, well,...I did the door pull handle surround because it was nasty, and did these switches and the ashtray since I had the console apart, I still have to do the ones to the left of the steering wheel, the driver's door handle and the actual pull handles (waited on those since it required microswitch disassembly)

So definitely not done, but so much is done that I feel a lot happier when I get in and see all the 'newness'

Gotta say, though this SEM product is shinier than the OEM look, I think it actually complements the interior better as it the finish is more alike the CF and the general look and feel. It also looks more black than grey which is a nice contrast to the Cuoio

Doing the 'in-dash' switches in the CF dash

Since the switches go in the holes, Ferrari put felt around the switches, I assume for a firmer fit

Apparently it bunches up and I am guessing will be difficult to reinstall properly

Anyone find something that works better than the felt?

Apparently once you push one end in, the other end bunches up

I also have a replacement one that has nothing so need to cushion it

arts and craft stores sell adhesive backed felt in varying colors and thickness. not perfect, but definitely better than nothing? I used it on the base of some vintage ice cream parlor stools so they didn't scratch my garage floors. just a thought?

The Neutrogena wipes didn’t work for me but Awesome Cleaner/Degreaser from the Dollar Store did. Amazon also sells it.
Within 5 minutes, my 430 ashtray was de-stickied and reinstalled.

I'm pretty much getting it done with 70% alcohol

Curious though, what could possibly be in this stuff?

Sounds like something I've gotta have!

That’s the stuff. It was $1 at the Dollar Store nearby.
I don’t know what’s in it, but it made short work of de-stickying my ashtray.

Neither the Neutrogena or AWESOME cleaner methods worked; however, a combination of 91% isopropyl alcohol and denatured alcohol (with a VERY steady, patient hand) worked great. Will post a new thread about the method shortly.

EDIT: I should also note this is on a Quattroporte not a Ferrari.

Great posts! Are anyone’s switches on the dash (left of steering wheel) loose? Not sure if replacing them will fix it?

My entire set of switches is loose because a clip on the retaining panel has broken. I bought a new panel for 20 quid or something - haven’t got round to fitting it yet.

I decided to do some buttons myself. I have not re-applied the clear coat, but the neutrogena wipes worked well for the first heavy gunk removal so I didn't have to worry about working it too hard and damaging anything. Then I took some 70% isopropyl wipes and did the final 2-3 wipe downs with that to get all the micro imperfections off. the whole process was way easier than I expected. I am a little worried about getting the painting to look right (I am not that good at sprays) but I will give it a try this weekend.

maybe obvious, but go several light layers, you do not want drips, make sure you get all around them

not sure, never used it. guess you can get something similar and try it on that, if it can be removed easily enough, try it on one I suppose?

Yeah I am going to give it a shot. I ordered some will see how it goes when I get it in a few days. I can spend more time doing disassembly in the meantime and do all the other buttons.

I started addressing the sticky buttons in my 458. I started with 90% isopropyl but it started lifting the paint on the control panels. Turns out these panels and buttons are white plastic that are painted black so when illuminating from behind (when lights are on) the script is lit up. Since 90% was too aggressive, started using borax dissolved in water. I saw it somewhere on YouTube. Works great and finishing it with 70% isopropyl to get it totally clean. Here is a before picture, I will post an after when done.
