Hey Steve, Welcome to my garage Glad your reading my project. (smile) the Tool your referring to, was/is recommended for 308QV heads. My heads do not require that tool. and, bravo, you are correct , you have to add a torque amount to the torque wrench dial display, or subtract the additional length from the Automatic Torque Wrench Detent. ;-)
hi all Ferrari friends,, my lucky day. I found a NOS, front windshield bottom trim. Thank you Redbay. yes,, it’s now on order. This,, I went to work in the garage. see,, sanding and primer, of lower windshield edge. Ready for trim. Image Unavailable, Please Login
( whew) 2 years of prep, 4 hours of masking,, followed by 3 hours of paint work. All painted now, window jambs, C pillars and roof. Roof to get “color sanded,” followed by a 2nd coat of PPG 95083 Ferrari Nero Image Unavailable, Please Login
And,,,, you know,, ,, ,, while you are in there,,, ( extra work done…) ,, Clean and lubricate both “ trunk - hatch opening solenoids.” spray interior of left rear panel in PPG Nero.,. ☺️ Image Unavailable, Please Login
In an attempt to prevent any future, galvanic corrosion,, in the rear of the car, a 100% Zinc panel has been installed and grounded,, in the well for the tool roll. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Last fiberglass heat- shield & fiberglass trunk floor installed. why do the “boring” jobs seem to take the most time. (Done finally, ,, yes,,! ) Ferrari friends,, thanks for following.
Edwardo, great job until now. Just a question,..why not spray the car in one time instead of panels separatly ? Time you loose putting paper and plastic to protect the other panels.
Great question,, Guido, First, I painted the front wings ( fenders) seperatly, in isolation, so I could paint their inside and their outside and the front frame rails with PPG products. Second reason, The volume of paint that I would need to spray and finish, before the first application is semi dry hindering a glassy finish, would overwhelm my little Craftsman Air Compressor and my little Summit 1.5 mm finish gun. I am also painting in my garage , it is not exactly surgically clean. Luckily, the new masking plastic film is so easy to work with,, thus, I can effectively isolate a single panel for a finish coat. As everyone in our Ferrari club knows, these cars are made of very low quality steel. Ferrari didn’t use any zinc protection until 1983 ish. Thus the paint job is for surface corrosion control.. also, it is a 10’ job,, lol,, ( aka, , looks good from 10’ away.) lol Last, for a high quality finish,, a complete, clear coat needs to be applied in a spray booth, prior to buffing. ( whew) thanks for following Ferrari friend. Edwardo

Looking good - On the windshield install, did you use spacers at the bottom of the windshield to keep it up away from the body? If so, what size, how many and where did you place them? What adhesive did you use for the glass to the body? What other products did you use to hold the trim on and what product do you plan to use between the trim and the body? Thanks - this is a project that I will be getting to soon Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey Joe, My glass is a special piece from Mondial Z. Place your windshield in the car dry. This will tell you the thickness of the bottom spacer you need. I cut some heavy black polyurethane foam to the right size, then glued that in a few days before I Glued in the glass. Mine was close to 8 mm thick. Trim the spacer and the glue that squished out with a new razor blade. ( clue,, check on-line for some videos.). If you scratch or chip your paint,,? Touch up with SEM self etching primer. Use a mini paint brush to save masking and cleanup time. Use Acetone to clean up excess 3M Window Weld. Careful, you can wipe off your paint or bodywork. You will need; Dow Automotive 5504G glass primer. 3M Window Weld 08609. 3M “Red Devil” Extreme Duty Calking Gun. good luck Ferrari friend. p.s. Love the color of your car.
TY Ferrari friend - a few follow up questions on this: how many spacers? and were yours 8mm thick or 8mm tall? what bonding agent are you using to hold on the trim (or does it snap in place? - can't remember) Are you using any other sealer where the trim meets the body or where the trim meets the windshield (mine had something when I removed the windshield)
Hey Joe, 1- I used one long spacer, as shown in the parts manual. I estimate mine was 10 mm tall by 8 mm thick. Trim and fill as needed so it is flat with the glass. 2- sorry, I don’t know about the clips, as used on the 308.. for, my trim is an aftermarket Ford product. ( I couldn’t locate a factory trim, back in 2009, when I set the glass.) But, my bottom trim is factory and is glued on flat. 3- for glass and trim, I have used only the 3M Window Weld product. ( smile) Hey now, I spent a lot of my career up in NYC,, lil cool up there,, ( today,, it is a balmy 62 *F ,,here in California) hope your winter project is going good Ferrari friend. Edwardo
