The 296 gt3 race car is about as far from a production Ferrari as you can get.

 

Bill Harrah was a very well-known businessman in the United States during the first half of the twentieth century. He founded Harrah’s Hotel and Casinos in Reno and Las Vegas as well as the Navada Gaming Control, taking advantage of the rise of gambling throughout the country at the time.

Harrah was also an avid car collector, and was known to have almost 1,500 collected vehicles, which would help fill the National Automobile Museum after Harrah’s death in 1978. Among his collection included an Elvis Presley Cadillac, actor James Dean’s Mercury from the movie ‘Rebel Without A Cause’, and a gold-plated DeLorean.

Looking for a fast, four-wheel drive vehicle to guarantee all-weather transport from his Reno businesses to other properties in Lake Tahoe, he seeked the help of Enzo Ferrari. When Ferrari declined to take on such a project, Harrah decided upon creating his own four-wheel drive Ferrari.

I just always wonder why Il Commendatore didn't sue him for his impurity? Ferrari afterall was not shy using their lawyers. I see all the folks in the nosebleed bleachers seem to say Enzo would spin in his grave, well, here was an instance 6 feet above ground. I see no whirlwind of Tasmanian Devil proportions.

 

I admire the ambition of anyone that undertakes any type of custom car build but that is quite possibly the ugliest, abomination I've ever seen. Swing and a miss! Proof that money can't always buy taste.

And for the record, as I've stated here many times, I'm 100% in support of anyone doing anything they want to a car they bought. I think once they pay for it Ferrari should have no legal say in what they do. Lol, even if they want to cover it in pink fur or have it bedazzled! ICYMI I've converted an F1 360 to manual and have reversed engineered all the factory parts to do so to machine them in house. In fact, if I could convert an Enzo to three pedals I would as the F1 system in that car is IMO a major weak point. I believe that would disqualify me from being considered a purist and would most certainly piss off old Enzo.

Yet, I'm sure many folks here will still try to say they are MORE Enzo, then Enzo himself. Hell, that they are more pure than Schumacher Sr.

One of my first cars was an Olds. It hurts me they didn't evolve fast enough to be alive today. Which is exactly the reason why I'm baffled folks what to repeat history.

Lol, when has Ferrari ever been “pure”?

Since you’re the resident self proclaimed expert in all things Ferrari I’d love to hear what timeframe you’d consider to be the “purist” era? Is there even such a thing? Who gets to define what is pure? Does it change with every generation or is it a constant? Is there a line even you think they shouldn’t cross? What if they dropped out of F1?

Hopefully the Purosangue will be at Cavallino. I would love to see it in person, especially in the context of all the other cars on hand.

 

No, they shouldn't. They only belong on racing Ferraris. I can make the exception for special Ferraris like the F40. I removed the shields on my car as it has no business having them either.

But make no mistake- give it enough time and I'll ***** that real Ferraris have gasoline engines.

The worst part about the Purosangue is that it has me confused. I know I shouldn't like it but... somehow I do.

 

Oh gee. Uh. Well those were real race cars so that’s why they got them! Oh, wait.

And when did they start putting cavalinos on the darn hub caps??? And the cavalino badge against the yellow backdrop?

I don't think he (Enzo) would give a monkeys, I think Enzo Ferrari is pragmatic, he wanted to make road cars to make money to go racing with. So his (Enzo) view would have been, whatever makes us more money, we could do more racing and we could have a more advantage. So actually, you can argue this philosophy fits Scuderia better than many other companies.

Was to my dealer’s Purosangue launch event in NYC last night.

I can say unequivocally that the car is way more impressive in person than it is in images (including mine).
I can also say that it will need an aftermarket exhaust to sound pure V12, much more so than even a PF 812.

Nothing I experienced interacting with it made me question purchasing one, in fact I’m more excited about it after seeing it because the actual thing is a lot more moving than the idea of it … for me the last piece will be driving it when it makes the dealer tour, hopefully it exceeds expectations there as well.

After Marcel kindly clarified the color and ownership of the green Purosangue in post # 6038 due to the importance of its owner in the Ferrari organization I initially thought it was a one-off color. After a quick search I realized that Verde Francesca is not an exclusive color as it has already been used in other Ferrari models such as the Pista that appears in the photo next to a 250 SBW painted in Maserati Verde Tevere. There are those who claim that Verde Francesca was inspired by the slightly lighter shade Verde Tavera but perhaps Marcel can clarify whether this is true or not. Interestingly, the color of the Porsche GT3 RS in the photo is also Verde Francesca and apparently this is the only non-Ferrari car painted in that color.

Verde Tavera doesn't exist.
It is Verde Tevere and the color code is 16223 M and yes, that is a Maserati color.
Never judge from photos on screens, lights, conditions, shade, brightness, etc. always make a huge difference.
And each person has individual eyes anyway.

How is everybody speccing the cars? I’m thinking the launch black. Would have to give up my 2020 Beluga Black Bentley W12 CGT. The Bentley looks better and the NAIM sound system is amazing. However, the PS will be newer, “cooler” and of course much more expensive (x2?). Car will be a daily driven to work etc. really curious what people on a Ferrari forum would advise lol.

The car is considerably smaller than the Bentley which makes me curious as to why you would make the switch.

I, being on a Ferrari forum, advise that you get the color you love. For my wife and I, we are leaning toward one of the silvers or gray.
