I don't think most legitimate sellers would have an issue doing a quick facetime with the buyer showing the item on cam, either. I think that is a good way to verify not only the item is indeed real, but also the condition. Just my 2 cents. I hope I am not stepping on any toes.

Yeah, I recently listed my Audi S5 on AutoTrader. I never got a legit inquiry.

I did, however, get several scams where the interested party want to buy my car. The deal was they would give me full price + whatever shipping costs were. They would send check for price of car + shipping, I would pay shipper out of my pocket then watch my S5 sail off into the sunset.

They were counting on the transport truck to load my S5 just after my bank to fund deposit from their counterfeited check, but before the bogus check bounced a couple of times and the bank took the money back out of my account. Leaving me with a stolen car and out the grand or two I paid the trucker.

I had just shipped an RS5 from Seattle, my first cross country purchase, with that dealer refusing to fund transport because of liability issues.

One after another I got offers with that scam. At first, I refused the part about shipping, the buyer would disappear, with or without an argument or excuse for why I should do it their way. After a few of those I said O. K. just to see what would happen. I got a series of counterfeit checks which of course could be verified as phony at whatever bank the check listed. Amazing!

The site is in the process of recovering cfensty's account after being notified of the account hijack earlier today.

In the meantime, it appears that the hijack occurred yesterday morning when a half dozen or so ads were posted by the hijacker. Perusing the ads (which have been closed and deleted) the following ads may have users in the process of transferring funds to the hijacker:

    Novitec Sport Springs Ferrari 458
OEM car cover for 360 Modena
360 / 430 OEM Gear Gate (manual swap)
    Ferrari Titanium Wheel Stud Set
    Ferrari 458 Steering Wheel

I've PM'ed anyone that indicated interest on the ads. If anyone tried to contact cfensty without posting on the ads, then hopefully they will see this notice.

If the funds have been transferred, then there is not much that can be done. But if the funds have not been transferred, then of course these users should take appropriate actions to terminate the transaction.

Some of the tipoffs of something being wrong are the low asking prices, the requests for payments in Pounds when the seller is in the US, having more examples for sale after the first one was spoken for, bumping of ads within an hour of posting, etc. The scammer was anxious to milk as many users as possible in a short period of time (as they likely anticipated they had a short window of opportunity).

Buyers should remember if it's too good to be true, then it likely isn't. If something seems odd, take notice and ask questions.

All users should also remember to practice good account security (strong passwords, changing of passwords, logging out of any public computers, etc) for your Fchat account as with any other personal account.

I just wanted to thank the mods for the help on this and let everyone know I am now back in control of my account! Sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused anyone with the scam items for sale and if I have one suggestion, it would be to update your password regularly. I hadn’t updated mine in years and this is what happens!

here's a nice phishing email I got, not sure if any users have fallen for it or related to the recent accounts hacked.

never click on any of these, especially if the domain is not FerrariChat.com. FYI we always write FerrariChat, not Ferrarichat.

be wary users with older registrations posting classifieds who haven't posted in several years. forums around the world are having hackers compromise older accounts and using them for scams.

hackers are accessing the accounts because of weak passwords or users same password at another site was hacked.

I recently created a “Wanted” parts post for two Challenge wheels for my 599GTB. Here’s a message I received:

    ptech463, Today at 2:06 AM
Hello, I have one in great condition, feel free to email me at: [email protected] for details. Best regards

I contacted “ptech463” via email and he, in turn, emailed me a picture of the wrong wheel. When I told him it’s wrong he refers me to “a friend” ([email protected]). Here’s a few excerpts from my discussion with him. Note the convoluted pricing and lack of command of English.

      Best regards.

      Then comes the Zelle request...

Great, I’d help ship via FedEx, Zelle and wire works for me
Let me know and I’d send my info for payment
      Thanks buddy

I tell him I’m not sending a Zelle without knowing who he is. He then provides this driver’s license and response:

My name is hector, located in Concord CA, here you go buddy Just let me know if Zelle or wire works and we can proceed
Thanks buddy (I deleted the personal info from the poor guy’s license which was probably stolen). By the way, a quick google of [email protected] identified him as a prolific scam artist.

Sorry for the length of this post but it illustrates to what extent these jerks will go to rip you off. Please be careful. PJ

nothing, there have been a few exceptions where the widow took the account over, but that's because they already had the login. we wouldn't give login info to anyone else after a member dies.

Here is one currently in progress for an OEM head unit I am looking to source for my 550. Obv red flags went up when someone who just joined Wednesday told me to email someone offline. I notified the seller (Joerg) via his eBay listing in case he receives other inquiries of intent to commit fraud using his listing as bait
