Wanting to pump out my CS power steering reservoir and refill it with new fluid. Then do this repeatedly for a while to get mostly new fluid in the system over time. I am planning on using Amsoil ATF for this. They have both Dexron III and Dexron VI available. The car is stated to use III, but I believe that IV is backwards compatible. Thoughts?

On the 430 you can use the same fluid as the F1 system. The F1 system is a higher spec and fine to put in the steering. They list a different fluid for the steering but just not available, hence use the f1 stuff

For the power steering pump giving seals etc i do not recommend the same as the F1 system.

I would use "castrol dex Merc for older cars"

Some.of the others mentioned are not advised for PS Image Unavailable, Please Login

    +1 on what Brian said.

I previously pumped out all my steering fluid and put in Pentosin CHF202 and it turned black very quickly and didn't provide great feel.

Brian recently changed my fluids and used the above Red Line power steering fluid and it's much better now.

In the olden days, several manufacturers produced a specific power steering fluid, but these were discontinued. Nice to see Red Line makes one. Incidentally, some manufacturers state not to use Dexron VI in power steering, but Dexron III is OK.

Thanks for the replies. See now this was the confusing thing for me. Some people are saying any Dex IV is good. Others are saying Dex IV is bad for PS systems.

Every OEM had their own. There were always accusations it was just ATF at a higher price? Who knows.

Been using Redline for a long time. Many Ferraris get the fluid very hot and destroys the oil. In some cases it expands so much it will overflow the reservior. Redline seems to be better on both counts.

Wait, so don't use ATF? Amsoil makes a Powersteering fluid as well. That's what I should actually use?

What i saying is use the older ATF that i provided a link to which is pretty much what was in there from factory or use the PS fluid rifledriver mentioned....i would stay away from more modern ATF due to possible seal issues

Actually ...i also recommend this fluid (link and picture above) for early 360 F1 systems as well due to some concern of seals .. f430 F1 system i recommend the ATF sync from Mobil 1 (non lv version)

That’s great. I will go buy some “Castro Dec Merc for older cars” tomorrow for my PS and F1 systems in my Stradale. Thank you!

By the time the stradale was made iirc the seals were updated in the F1 system so you should also be ok with Mobil 1 syn Dex/Merc version..
