My Water temp gauge has gone awol. Rapidly rises to maximum after it registers a first rise in temp from running from cold.

So pretty sure its this temp sensor. http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partsListing.asp?M=1&Mo=692&A=1&B=41071&S=&ID4=1681242
Part 39 on the parts diag.

It has Jaeger written on it and numbers 58001 and 03 A6.

Ive searched here and googled but cant find an alternative to the ferrari part costing over £100. Anyone found an alternative supply?

Thanks for that, yes SF are even more expensive for this one, so they havent found an alternative, http://www.superformance.co.uk/a-355/cooling.htm
Hills dont make this either. But I cant help assume its a common part used elsewhere.

I also suspect there are 2 parts important to it, obviously correct size etc but also it has a removable red collar that i wondered means something about a setting in it.??

    Is it a Bosch item?
Can you see any part number on it?

Unfortunately not its says Jaeger and i think 58001 on one face and 03 A6 on another.
Searched sites i cant find for cross reference with no luck so far.

Just a quick follow up on this. I replaced the transmitter only to still have the same fault. That got me looking elsewhere towards the gauge itself, turned out to be a missing nut behind the gauge, one of the 3 that holds it down onto the circuit board. That replaced, all well again, a slightly cheaper mend if i had found it first! Fully functioning transmitter now on ebay!

I have the same issue and I've been trying to figure out what it is. I hope this is the fix. Thank you for posting!

Thanks for the follow up. This has happened on a couple of cars, so it may be something to put on people's to-do list should they need to access the instrument panel for any reason (bulb change, etc)

Have you tried anything else? Do you have a Motronic 2.7 or 5.2 car? Can you use an OBD2 reader to look at coolant temperature to compare sensor readings?
