Quick update - after a small electrical hurdle that our fine manual master Robin helped sort out in no time, the car is back together and firing right up.

Looks like next week I get to write a fairly large but totally worth it check, haha!

Just got word the car is together and driving and we’re just waiting on the column surround to return from Sticky No More. So it will likely be Monday.

    Holy #%€+!!!

Don't be surprised to see your ECU's arrive after roughly 9 months. Speaking from experience.

So much for that 4 day express delivery charge.

So, Robbie and co at Sticky No More were able to get my VIN plate inserted into the new steering column surround. I’m stoked about that!

    Pickup is Friday!

Whoever your mechanic is should be prepared for others of us to be wanting to be next in line after yours! (Assuming you are pumped when you get the car).

I’m super excited to see/hear more

Well, to be honest, I figured the turnaround time alone would likely elicit a good deal of interest in the shop, so I asked if they would prefer I keep a bit quiet about things. Turns out that was a good idea.

They are of course appreciative of work and interest, but they are positively swamped. Since I am a long time customer, they accepted my job but made it clear they are without sufficient staff to devote time to a steady stream of conversion work. Compounding matters is a few local dealers are now refusing to work on cars that are ten or more years old, and they are one of a few very good shops with the proper resources to meet that need. So they’ve just been bombarded.

They did recommend Competitzione in MD to anyone looking to convert. They are well known and a top notch shop.

Today, I had my first drive in a manual 575!!

The car is absolutely transformed. Everything I liked about it has been amplified by the very mechanical nature of the shifts and the ECU tuning has made it even more tactile. The Skunkworks FHP steering upgrade is GREAT.

There’s a little learning to be done - I have to get to know the car all over again, but that’s hardly a chore! I’m looking forward to seeing how it wants to be driven. So far - smooth and direct is the ticket.

I’ll be retiring the car once work on my Porsche is completed for a few little things and anything I notice during the getting to know you phase…but so far, I’m pretty damn pleased!!

Thanks!! I’m pretty thrilled! This is exactly the feel I was after - edgy, but still in a big GT sort of way. Perfect. In fact, I had been looking at some other cars lately that would maybe take the place of my 911, but after picking this thing up I’m really not sure I need anything else. Hell, I may sell the 911.

Too soon to be certain, of course. So I’ll give everything a little while to settle…but man, this is one heck of a car. It was awesome before, no doubt, but now it’s just…yes.

If you want to make heel and toe easier, 575Ms originally came with closer spacing between the gas and brake pedals. This changed at AN 50297 and moved the spacing from 35 mm to 55 mm by moving the brake pedal one row to the left. Reversible for easy heel and toe.

I have found this spacing a problem. My shoes aren't huge, just size 12, but it's very easy for me to catch the edge of gas pedal while trying to brake. No problem for me if I drive without shoes
