Posted by an associate: The Corvair’s impact in Europe was highly significant, and GM styling boss Bill Mitchel thought a dashing Italianate coupe to go along with the sedan would make some inroads there. Pininfarina was commissioned to build a prototype, but it was penned by Tam Tjaarda. The process started in 1960, and the design evolved somewhat, but the final 1963 version is certainly superb. The airy roof line certainly hints at the direction the 1965 production Corvair would take. And those teardrop headlights made their first appearance here, but it wouldn’t be their last. Is that real or a magazine render? If real, did Domagoj Dukec look at a 1st Generation Lincoln MKX late one night, put down his stein, and think: "Oh mein Gott, we've got to get us some of that." ? Image Unavailable, Please Login All the best, Andrew.
What a great guy he was. Had a chance to meet and talk Design with him. A true legend. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Did an Italian Car Design Tour and visited his studio along with Ital Design, Bertone, Fioravanti, Zagato and several others. He grew up in Michigan, and attended UM, so we had a chance to exchange stories. His dad became famous from the connection with Lincoln design. He had a cool studio in Modena and was still designing when he was ‘up there in age.’ On that trip met Fioravanti as well. Another character. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nissan has revealed the Max-Out concept - a two-seat convertible electric sports car, which represents its ambitions to develop its sustainability and “innovative mobility” Is design finally moving back towards cleaner, simpler design? Nissan may have infringed on BRAUN's electric razor design patent. I like the idea of simplicity but elegant can be simple, too. Was hoping Bizzarrini's new car, while "neat", would be more retro-simple-elegant-fantabulous but not to be.
I hope it's getting cleaner and simpler. Max-Out has an interesting shape, but I'm not all that keen on the neon lines. Perhaps the production version will have a more livable color scheme. All the best, Andrew.
Some concept cars are thinly disguised production cars, some are crazy versions based on the theme of a production car, and some are just concepts, unrelated to anything yet imagined for the actual future. I would assume this falls into that last category.

One of my favourite Bill Mitchell pictures; where the crease of the fender is almost as sharp as the crease in those pants. Image Unavailable, Please Login Another view > Image Unavailable, Please Login
Must be an extremely rare prototype! Chevy didn't get around to releasing the production Elky until MY1959. Image Unavailable, Please Login
