that’s fast for LA traffic :p

last year it was fun because of novelty factor. I think the novelty wore off already :(

To compare, Ray Harroun won the 1st Indy 500 in 1911 with an average speed of 74.6MPH.

112 years later, NASCAR makes that look fast.

Will there be a lot of crowing about the success of the event coming from the deep, fake wood paneled
walled offices in Daytonner? From the little I've seen, most of the seats looked empty.

    Alone on the track? :D
We caught a few minutes of it at a restaurant, and it was hilarious. Looked like the crowd exiting Costco.
At the end of a caution (the point at which we noticed it on one of the TVs), the lead car reached a whopping 81 mph at the end of the 2nd straight before catching the backmarkers..... followed immediately by another caution.

The race (if not the series) was tailor-made for the Peak Stupid thread.
It was THE perfect application of this:

Sooo...y'all know I'm a huge NASCAR fan, I never miss a race, I go to several a year...that being said...

I didn't even bother watching this. It's stupid. I don't get the point of it, other than to race in LA and have rappers there to act like they are bringing in new audiences that never actually show up

what's silly is NASCAR (and other series) run 1/4 mile paved ovals with late models and put on a good show.

It means Bubba Wallace (who I used to like) is ruining the sport with his bull shot because Wendell Scott unfortunately got screwed decades ago.

    Bubba who? He's a non-factor.
I'm not so sure HE is saying much verbally, it's mostly the nascar brass that THINKS they need to 'do something'.

What bothered me was Bubba's non-action when that 'noose' issue popped up and it was proven
that the 'noose' in question was a garage door pull that had been there for over 7 (seven) years.
I don't believe HE said a word about this 'noose' - it was all the media and others that just wanted to stir up sh*t.
THAT he took full advantage of, and that's when I lost all respect for him.

nascar went to LA SPECIFICALLY for a P/R grab, and zero other reason(s).

They tried somewhat the same approach with the GrandAm shambles (minus the rappers).

Roger Edmundson wanted what he called, "The Man on the Street", audience. In other words,
new blissfully ignorant fans that didn't have a clue was real sports car racing was. They literally
thought that their "The cars don't matter" approach would bring in an entirely new audience and
they hung their entire business plan on this theory.

I've yet to read a single positive article about the Coliseum event. Even the NASCAR drivers and
teams are bitching about it. And, just think, they then have to traverse the entire width of the country
to get to Daytonner and then right back across the country again for Fontana, Vegas and Phoenix.

Do the teams dare to start speaking out about this nonsense and risk losing their standing? If history
    shows us anything, likely not.

Unless they ALL 'complain', and if fined, they ALL skip an event or two.
And when nascar sues them, they can miss a few more events, or worse yet,
show up and orchestrate a crap show, where half the field 'breaks' and pulls in
    on lap 5.
There are a lot of things owners can do, it just depends on the solidarity of them,
and it will take ALL of them to band together.
    Not gonna happen...

Don’t forget about this little thing called Sponsorship though. It would be suicide followed by millions in lawsuits. Nascar doesn’t give 2 ****s about the drivers, owners, or anything, they know every team is wrapped around the fingers of the folks that actually pay the bills so they have no choice but to show up.

Yeah, but Monaco is on a semi-'real' circuit, worth looking at.

Did you notice how the TV cameras went out of there way to NOT show the empty grandstands?

No, if you watched it, it was bumper cars.
I can't count how many times a guy was losing it or got out-of-shape,
and the guy next to him 'bumped' him back straight again...

I didn't, I know that, and you can show up - that doesn't mean you have to put on a good show, you can pretend to.
Remember the 2005 Indy F1 race?

I don't really care about the LA race itself, it's the going from NC to Cal, back to FL, and then back to Cal that's STUPID.

They should hold it AFTER Daytona and before Fontana. If they also want to hold some sort of Busch Clash before the Daytona 500, that should be done in addition.

No, having a race in the streets of LA and then at Fontana would eliminate a bunch of folks that
cannot afford to go to both within one week, too close geographically.
Hell I won't afford to go to two MLB baseball games back-to-back, none of those 'sports'
are cheap anymore, when you count food, beer, PARKING.... let alone a 'decent' ticket.

IMO what they SHOULD do is have a street race in Orange County somewhere, and then head
up to Sears Point, and part of that is so they can run the same car, that is, if they still have a
'short track' car and a 'speedway' car, that may have changed with the new iroc -er- spec chassis.
Running down south would attract those fans, and Sears Point would attract NorCal, OR, WA, Idaho fans.
Where do you put up grandstands for 100,000 people in downtown LA? Oh wait - we only care about TV...

PS - 'Busch' should be able to dictate when and where they run THEIR event, and if it doesn't
fit their marketing scheme, simply don't do it. Sponsors come and go all the time, people won't
stop drinking Busch because they pulled out of a dumb-ass race...
