    Hi.

    I have had this scary message appear once before about a year ago, but after leaving it for 10 minutes, turning on/off a few times - it cleared. The car then drove absolutely fine.
    Today when I got it out of the garage where it had been sitting on the charger for 2 months it started first time with no issues, I moved it onto the driveway, but when I tried to restart shortly after, the dreaded message appeared and now will not turn over.
    I've disconnected and reconnected the battery for 1 hour but this has made no difference.

    I am thinking about investing in a Foxwell NT530 for around £200 which I'm hoping may help so I can get it cleared then to the dealer.
    Has anybody used one of these and would recommend it, or any another type of OBD reader maybe? Happy to spend more if needed...

    All suggestions much appreciated as ever!!

    Thanks guys.

    Neil.

    Check your "T" handle. If its "Floppy" ie you don't have to pull it up to engage reverse, make sure you return it to the center position and don't accidently bump it down. If the handle is not in the proper position it will always result in a Trans Light , which is essentially telling you that your request for reverse is not allowed.

    Too many F1 owners have spent $$$ at the dealer or sold their cars for cheap fearing their trans was about to explode because their floppy T handle would occasionally trip the code!

    Cheers!

    I got an Autel MK808S. I use it through the "international" side (not vehicle specific) and it works well to see the codes and resets.

    Another one to check is the brake pedal switch. TCU won't permit the starter relay to ground if it doesn't see this.

    Thanks for all the suggestions which I've checked but unfortunately haven't sorted the issue.
    I'm just deciding now which scanner to buy in the hope that I can clear the message and get the car moving.
    Fingers crossed!

    The scanner will help you understand why the car isn't moving, but clearing the code in itself isn't going to allow it to start again. If the underlying fault condition isn't remedied, then the fault will be straight back there again.

    The plot thickens...

    After a few days with the battery on charge, then disconnected, I tried again and it started first time, drove perfectly, no error codes! :confused:

    My Foxwell NT530 scanner with the specific Ferrari software loaded then arrived, I plugged it in and the only codes I can find are P1 602 & P1 611 which I believe are showing as I had the battery disconnected (via the red kill switch in the boot) and a code on the transmission which I guess is my stored problem, of P1 755 "ignition enabling relay driver"

    Does anyone have any suggestions or comments please??

    Many thanks

    Neil.

    Those are powertrain fault codes (starting with "P"). If the error was with the gearbox, then try scanning the gearbox ecu and see what stored codes are there.

    Can you remember what the message was on the display when the car wouldn't start?

    Cheers Robin.

    Assuming im doing this correctly, then I scanned both ECU sections titled " Transmission (Magneti Marelli CFC231 & CF301)"
    They both came back with the same:
    ID= P1 755
    Status= Missed
    Description= Ignition enabling relay driver

    No other codes anywhere.

    The alternating messages on the dash (when it wouldn't turn over) were:
    "Transmission failure" (red image of a gearbox also) and "Transmission failure. Go to dealer slowly"

    Really confused, as the car starts and drives perfectly, maybe its a sign that I should do some more miles!!??

    So I looked up what this code means, and it is indeed an odd one. I assumed that there would be a sensor returning an invalid value, but this is different. It seems to be saying that the transmission control unit (TCU), which has the ability to prohibit engagement of the starter motor relay, has detected either a high voltage or a short circuit on the connection between the TCU and the starter relay. The diagnosis is indicating to check for wiring faults on that line. It may actually be genuine Italian car electronic weirdness, and hence will self cure, but if not then start looking for wiring faults.

    The fact that it’s a missed code is saying that this fault occurred previously, but is not currently present. I would clear the code now so you know if it comes back it’s reoccurred. This code would certainly correspond to the transmission failure warning and refusal to start anyway.

    Of course the simple thing to do is just get rid of the TCU entirely and put a clutch pedal and gearstick in there!

    Thankyou so much, that's very useful and quite a relief in a way!
    I'll clear the codes and use the car a bit more, as this only really happened after periods of sitting around on charge. If it returns I can at least carry out the check for a short as described.

    Yes BTW, a real manual would be awesome, have you cracked it now then and offering a changeout service?! :D

    All the best
