Carbon fiber in its natural state is a dark grey(almost black) weave pattern.

I think those “coloured” carbon effects are achieved with a pigmented clear coat so would still need paint of some kind.

For someone like me that hates this fad of exposed carbon—coloured or otherwise—and black wheels, this generation of F1 cars is just the absolute worst aesthetically.

Some treatments to add color to carbon fibre imply adding other materials to the mesh, thus altering its mechanical properties. They could tint the polymers that go in the fabric but it would look a lot darker than Ferrari red.

Matte red is already bad, so let´s not make things worse.

Certainly much more 'conventional' in appearance. I think not too surprising given the lack of results with the original concept.

Wolff is fortunate that team Lotus is no longer on the grid

Toto says the "zero" sidepod design will change before the W14 hits the track.....so he says.

Merc using for their launch the diversity element of the Sky crew for virtue signalling and for currying favourable commentary during race broadcasts? Another example of cynical operations from these ****s? Thoughts?

The sidepods look plain to me, just like old ones from the 90s, nothing special there.....

Notice the Halo roll hoop continues all along the horizontal axis of the car.....along the engine cover to the rear of the car.

The premiere of the Mercedes W14 has not been the dream. After the presentation they have put it to roll in the Silverstone and it has given engine problems. They have sent the unit in for repair. It had ignition problems, misfiring and misfiring. They knew what was going to happen to them. They fear a repeat

Is it just me or are all of these 30-90 minute unveiling ceremonies are very, very tedious?

Russell was asked by AMuS whether they've fixed the bouncing after taking it out at Silverstone after the launch....he dodged the question and said "We'll see next week."

Makes sense. The car driven today will have some updates in Bahrain. I expect the car to 'bounce' and there will be others - except for RedBull lol :)

Not that I get too caught up in liveries, but Mercedes ranks dead last for me. They don't even have a livery. It's bare carbon with a bright blue stripe and a bunch of sponsor logos. The few paint and decals are covering an already ugly looking car.

Of course car will likely look significantly different come the first race, because Mercedes like to build dummy cars for their launch. Cost cap right?

I actually like the bare carbon livery. If anything I don't like the painted bit...might as well go full carbon, right?
