All "objective" people know very well that electricity is the result of a regression stemming from a political and administrative constraint and therefore absolutely does not embody progress. I think we are all up in a lather about this because it is being shoved down our throat by faceless and nameless bureaucrats rather than letting the market decide and develop the best propulsion systems. Having the freedom to choose is infinitely better than being limited by nefarious government forces. Millions of people making their own choice invariably trumps the decision of a few know it all’s who decide for those millions and often screw it up(see communism and dictatorships). If EVs won out it a normal marketplace so be it. It won’t win in mine because of various factors including weight problems and noise. That may change in the future and hopefully the fine engineers at Ferrari, Porsche and the rest come up with some breakthroughs. When I was a kid used a ruler strap against the spokes. It worked well and was in a sense natural. Ferrari could use the same possibly. Get a genuine plastic made ruler, for better wear, and tie it against the wheel spokes. (Guess your going to need wire wheels here). Then they can charge it as an optional extra for say $20,000. The noise it make would be relative to speed.
You speak of objectivity. Last I checked, stop watches don't have feelings, or are you saying all the 1/4 mile and lap times are 'faked?' You do know the EP 9 hit 6:45 on the 'Ring? The Evija should be much faster. Or you measure progress with car having less performance? Can you explain to me how how one manages instant torque with ICE?

Fake sound has a lameness factor; agreed. Just that forever is a long time for an EV motor never to sound good. Since ultimately subjective, for some, infinite is valid.
Other than lack of sound I have no gripes about EVs except for 1.Excessive weight 2.Brake feel 3. Excessive cost ie carbon fiber everything and bigger brakes to counteract number 1 above 4. Poor handling if number 1 is not overcome(yes I know low center of gravity for EVs help but the laws of physics cannot be undone-except by the far left) 5. The excessive cost of revamping our electrical grid to energize these things 6. The pollution from the electric plants unless we go full nuclear (which will never happen here in the US in any near future)and let’s not talk about off shore wind projects that deafening whales and killing them by the thousands 7. The pollution from the mining operations and human casualties from these mines for the rare earth minerals required (the far left doesn’t care so long as it third world countries doing the digging) 8. The excessive time to charge them up( yesterday I put 1/4 of a tank in my DD- in less than a minute I was back on the road and full tanks take less than 5) and no I won’t go to the station minimart to buy hazardous to your health mystery meat sandwiches and such To me the lack of mechanical noise is the least of all issues I have with EVs! Let's take a look at your list. 1. Weight A La Ferrari Aperta weights over 3,700 pounds (quoted the lighter non-aperture here) is LaFerrari disqualified for you? A Lotus Evija weighs 3,700 pounds 2. If you want hydraulic brakes, that has nothing to do with EV powertrains. If you don't like regenerative brakes, what can I say, that's what they use in Formula 1 today. 3. EVs don't require carbon 4. EVs theoretically have better handling since all the mass is in the floor, have seen the chassis of an electric car? I can carry two electric engines with my bare hands. You know a Ferrari patent has cold air jets to go 'next level handling?' I'm sure that's an anathema as well to many. 5,6,7 I'm tired of environmental activists telling me I shouldn't own sports cars like a Ferrari. They've been saying that for over decades. Besides, I don't talk about political reasons you don't like EVs, that belongs in the P&R forum. 8. Average time I spend at a gas station is 5 minutes. For a Lucid, that gives you 100 miles. I’m a cheap skate too, so I tend to like to save money at the pump and not support unfriendly governments and support buying American. (slapping myself, damn, there's that P&R again) Really the only thing I can say is you're right about is the sound. It's not for everyone, though I simply caution that forever is a long time for engineers NEVER to get the sound 'right.' Literally was at a the dentist this morning, and will not lie and say the Taycan didn’t sound amazing pulling up. Then again, I like Guardians of the Galaxy and x-wing fighters, so there’s that.
EVs under load can make a fair bit of sound. The Tesla Plaid makes some very noticeable sound at full tilt. I'm sure if they were so inclined they could amplify that noise with a 'Sound Generator' like Ferrari and so many others use. I like the noise it makes, but even if you don't it wouldn't surprise me that with some attention it could be tuned and massaged.
You support my complaints- look at the cost required to achieve a LaFerrari (actually a hybrid)or Evija weight-2+ million dollars It will be some time before a cheaper EV sports car achieves those weight goals And let’s see 5 minutes at the pump= full tank= 300 miles give or take 5minutes at the speed charger(if you can find one)=100 miles in a Lucid That may change in a few years when one can fully charge up inn5 minutes but the battery fires will be an interesting side show. It’s actually beyond my comprehension why while they mandate EVs they dont mandate standard swappable battery packs. ...bring back the Dino brand and presto, comply with the <10K cars. I'm not interested in an EV, ferrari badging on it or not. I don't care how good or fast it'll be, or how many artificial noises it pumps into the car to make me think it's an NA V12. It's more than just a noise. It's feel, smells, specific behavior (good or bad) at certain RPM/speeds. Cars have been getting objectively ''better'', but in my eyes, less interesting. 458 Speciale provides all the noise, feel and speed of modern Ferrari's I want. In fact I'd be more than happy with a 360 that got the same treatment as @360trev's 360 got. And fact of the matter is, such a car will always and forever be better than an upcoming EV Ferrari, and more entertaining. Apart in sheer speed. But in pretty much all realistic scenarios...such extreme speed on the road isn't necessary, or even fun. On the track? If track speed was all I was after, I'd buy an ultima GTR, an F3 car, radical...whatever.
To answer the previous question what makes Ferrari great is the NA V12 engine. It is magnificent and outplays anything else in the car. Lose that and lose the sale period.
This whole scenario reminds me of musics push to digital. Remember the CD and later downloads and streaming? Perfect music forever without the pops,clicks and hiss of analog. Well, it took decades to “perfect” the digital algorithms to approximate analog sound. The masses didn’t care- they wanted convenience and ease of use. Now you don’t even own the music, you rent it. To this day digital comes close to analog, and yes has none of the drawbacks of records or tape but to the critical ear it still lacks a certain something, harmonics, timing, pace- call it what you will but EVs are the CDs of the car world right now. They will get better and may thrill in many ways but the foibles which make driving an enthusiast ICE car uniquely entertaining will be gone. I've been with audiologists that have done the test to our group of friends, some who are professional musicians. Not one beat 50/50. True, I'm sure some savants or say synesthetes that hear outside 20-20,000 hz probably can tell, I've yet to meet one of them. I have a Class A system btw and what some snooty audiophiles have said is the 'perfect' system. Some folks don't realize the reason vinyl sounds different is because of the 'flaws' not the 'perfection.' Besides, it's all subjective anyway. I bet you spend $20,000 on gold cables too right? You really still have that bookcase with CDs? I do admit, I like the physical media's books and cases, those are cool. You like it though cuz you want to 'own' the music? Do you also still own DVDs? I admit I am being crass here, I just seriously have not met a person that still carries a CD book around their car in 10 years (maybe more) or has a bookcase of VHS tapes. (though this explains a lot about where you and other people here that are shaking their fists at Ferrari shaped clouds are coming from.)
Very well said, not being sarcastic, I like old video games, like Pac Man or Donkey Kong. What *really* gets me going is original cabinet and rom/switch gear. I know these days kids are into Call of Duty 28, etc. So many of the newer generation is more of a novelty, but not something they would necessarily spend hundreds of hours on like say the latest Grand Theft Auto. Some do, and the beauty is nobody is banning an original Pac Man arcade cabinet for those kids. The same way, nobody is banning a Ferrari F355 for us, or them. *** Or wait, is it some folks want Ferrari recreations post 2035 of what an F355/360/430 feels like? So the crying is say a rebirth of F355 would be theoretically impossible in 15 years? if this is true, then revel in the glorious time right now friends - smoke em' if you got em. Why would I whinge?
