Apple CarPlay on centre screen

It's very annoying!

 

I’ve been using CarPlay haptic-style today on my SF90. It’s utterly hopeless. CarPlay needs a touch screen to work safely.

 

Another question: Has anyone here refitted the CarPlay system? I did not buy it in 2021 because it did not really work good and was much to expansive for that. Now with touchscreen on the center screen it sounds good for me. Mainly because I do not use the original navigation system because it works so bad.

So, anyone here with a retrofit?

 

I know!

It just takes your focus away from driving!

They need to re-think this.

Even in vehicles with a touch screen, CarPlay maps is frustrating because no pinch to zoom. Still have to stab a +- to zoom in and out. So I only use the CarPlay mans for directions and built in NAV for maps…

0Mud, can you please confirm that the software update itself enabled wireless CarPlay without any new hardware module or dongle installed?

I’m in the US and the Infotainment software was updated during its annual service last December; CarPlay still displays on instrument panel.

Any news on the update for US yet?

@AgeRebel I just emailed my dealer today to ask them when I can bring my car in.

It was supposed to be at the end of Jan.

Stay tuned.

 

My service rep just told me that she doesn’t think this will be released to the US Romas. I’m not sure why that would be the case, and I’ve asked her to look further. Frustrating!

Yes, it not does require additional hardware if you had the CarPlay option already, at least for Europe. Not sure why there is such a long delay in bringing this feature to the US cars. Apart from the odd disconnection it has been rock solid for me

 

My car is going in on Wednesday for the fitment.

You just got a lot of US owner's hopes up...

 

I just emailed my dealer and he said there is no new update yet, just the original update that he says is extremely glitchy. Curious to see what they will install, please keep us posted...

 

My car is going in tomorrow and this was the email I received from my dealer;

I just checked and there is Roma software version that came out earlier this Month. I can install that to your car pretty quickly. Let me know when you want to come in.

Unfortunately this did not work.

They did do a fairly important upgrade to the system and the new Nav upgrade is so much better! Almost makes it as useable as car play as it goes in the side screen next to the tacometer.

I am going to drive the car some more today to see if there is anything else that is worthwhile mentioning.

 

Whenever you have a moment, could you please take a picture of the nav. A little confused on how it differs from before.

 

@Condor Man, by “this did not work” do you mean that the system would not take the CarPlay update, or that it was not the CarPlay update we were hoping for but rather just the system Nav upgrade?

On my car (US delivery 12/21), the infotainment Nav has always been able to be displayed on either side of the tachometer as well as on the centre touchscreen pad. It was updated again during service 12/22 but haven’t noticed any significant change.

The system did not take the CarPlay update.

The CarPlay works in the tachometer screen. It just doesn’t work in the middle stack above the gears.

Slightly new interface that is far more responsive and fast.

The tracking on the satellites are also much quicker too.

The old system was unbearable! I drove with it for 10 minutes and then I just put maps on my phone on my lap!



Here is a photo from today.

It has a green bar that moves up and down when you are approaching a corner and it can also show the speed limit signs.

I am not sure if the old version had this.
