The knobs are supposed to have a satin-like silverish finish, which I believe is difficult for a detailer re-create. Obviously, these get marred/scratched over time and detailers simply polish them out. That’s the incorrect look . Only the handle should be polished. Best solution is to simply buy another for $300 or be more careful with the knob So either the car is generally just well looked after or he spent $300 on a knob. Pics from 2017 prove the knob has been intact since at least then. Here are some interior pics of the car from 2017. I forgot to mention the car also has the more desirable Ferrari Sony headunit and disc changer along with the proper 355 radio bezel (now discontinued). The radio setup goes for $3-4k these days. https://www.ebay.com/itm/134107990742?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=7TH-rmQTTwm&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=eV6qWM2ISrK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Look at these cars long enough and you can spot misc. clues which can give you a better understanding of how the car has been treated. It's not me, that's the BAT history. This particular car? Over $200k? My gut says no, so there is your bet. But like I said, at Gooding you never know. I think their estimate of $180k is more reasonable. No doubt it appears to be a nice car. Actually hope I'm wrong. I don't mind the increase in value. But every day I get emails about price cuts on FL properties. Will the Ferrari market follow suit? I also notice they have a 365 GTB/4 cope listed at $550k to $650k and a 365 GTB/4 spider at $2.5M to $3M. It's only a matter of time until people come to their senses and realize F355 are better when the top goes down.
Extremely low mileage, clean U.S. spec Berlinettas and GTSes are becoming harder to find. Compare it to a 14k mile Porsche 993 Turbo with higher production numbers and it's fairly priced.
Take a look at the car again . A U.S spec car with recent service/work to the tune of $19k and 20k less miles than Nathan's recent purchase. This car would be a steal for only $30k more @$180k. Btw, my number would include all fees (what the buyer spent to get the car). Comparing this 30k mi 355 to my 30k mi 355's, this car was babied. It takes time, $$$, effort, and sometimes luck to get a car to appear and be preserved as Maranello intended. I'd say a majority of 355's will probably not achieve this level of preservation and presentation. Money doesn't solve all problems either. You can spend a ton of money and end up with inaccurate results. Here it is ... a beautiful 355 ready to rock n roll, accurately presented ... handed to you on a silver platter.
I don't hear anyone asking for buttress photos and paint meter readings. I think BaT's peanut gallery holds these cars back during auctions. Porsche commenters boost the Porsche listings up and dreamers regurgitate the same things they've heard about potential maintenance and/or paintwork.
So what do you want me to do, agree with you? What kind of bet would that be? $19k in service? Must have been a lot wrong with it, or it's a lemon and unreliable. (in 2013) "it relocated to Pennsylvania, where regular servicing was carried out by Algar Ferrari of Philadelphia. By 2017, the F355 was acquired by a collector in Southern California and, in 2022, a major engine-out service was performed at a cost of over $19,000, " How do you spend $19k on a well maintained car.
I hope the car does 250k! Because that would mean my 18k mile car will do amazing at Amelia! curious… any idea how many silver vs Grigio were produced?
They are just pictures. Professionally taken. Appear to have used a polarizing filter. How about this one? Does that like a high quality refinishing job? Scratches, wrong gloss level. Look, it appears to be a nice 30k mile car in silver. It will fetch what someone wants to pay. Doesn't appear special to me. Image Unavailable, Please Login You can do better with a rattle can. OK Ken, if it makes you feel better I'll play your game and take the under. I get grief for not overpaying for a 355 anyways. It IS a great example and a beautiful car. This is the type of car (short of concours) that I'd expect to (not) see trading hands privately (Meaning, I'm a bit surprised to see it make it to public market). This is a nicer car than most of what has been seen on BaT. So we can put to test the theory that BaT's wider viewing audience brings a premium (and higher bids). And (just to reiterate) the selling price is the actual bid. NOT the Buyer/Seller fees, tax/tag & title along with whatever nonsense people tack on to inflate their estimates.
Great thread I have been looking for a well-maintained yellow 6spd 355 GTS. Can't post a WTB in the forum yet. Is this a good thread to continue monitoring whatever comes up for sale?
The stickies might never have been done to begin with, which would be a testament to how babied this car was if the sticky parts still look decent . Image Unavailable, Please Login
How do we get the recent service records? Let’s see what was done. Perhaps guides were done? Or new headers? I don’t know any shop in socal charging $19k for a basic belt job.
I can’t speak on maintenance as I haven’t gone through the listing, but there is a euro car on BAT at the moment.
Obviously had some paint work since 2017, Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login and why is the shifter knob shiny on the bottom: Image Unavailable, Please Login https://images2.bonhams.com/image?src=Images/live/2017-07/07/24658807-3-30.jpg Are we having fun yet? (If I'm going to take the low end of the bet, I have to provide supporting evidence.) I get it. It's silver / curio. (You guy's know this is all just in good humor, right?)
What’s the buyer’s fee for Gooding? That certainly needs to be tacked on as the bidder is aware of it and the fee amount varies drastically between auction houses. Tax/tag/title can be left out.
I’d be surprised if it didn’t have paint work in the front. Key is the minor flaws were sorted and the paint matches well. Less headache for a new owner . Regarding a shiny bottom, could very well be the silver coating later wearing out over time, which would mean the knob is probably still original.
I have no idea. From my limited experience the OEM finish has a very fine metalic where as most refinished wheel are pretty much a coarser metallic. But from the picture it's not possible to tell to my eye. There is no doubt that this appears to be a nice car. I'm personally not into silver, but it does look nice with the curio interior. I believe the Goodmans buyer premium is 10%
