Saying the 812 replacement is a NA V12 with electric assist is like saying the Pista is a NA V8 with turbo assist. Both are technically true, but at the end of the day either a NA engine stands alone as the power source or it doesn’t. This isn’t to say that it won’t be epic, but it won’t be categorized as a NA car to all but those doing semantic gymnastics to define it as such.
Another 12-cylinder going away... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2023/02/22/bentley-scraps-flagship-12-cylinder-engine/
Looks like air intakes are at the rear of the manifold. Lots of new plumbing at the front. Doesn't sound like a V12. Maybe it is but would have to be the worst sounding one they ever produced. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Totally disagree - and this is coming from one of the biggest NA purists out there! Having an NA V12 with an electric motor merely there as a support act is entirely different to turbos on a V8, as they are an integral part of the combustion process. Do I want electric support? No, but if it means we still get an NA V12, then I'm fine with it. Besides, being able to roll in and out of your neighborhood quietly is great in my opinion!
Like I said, semantic gymnastics. A regular bicycle and an electric bicycle are not the same thing despite the fact that they can both be powered by natural human power. Personally I am not against electric assist as I suspect it can be a great performance complement to an NA engine even if fuel efficiency weren’t a consideration. It is actually perfect for a an engine like a GT3 flat six. Slap a small battery and a couple of small electric motors and you resolve the low end torque issue whilst retaining the best characteristics of the flat six like high rpms, sound, etc and without the drawbacks of FI. Heck you might even be able to retain a real manual transmission, but is still wouldn’t make that car NA by definition. It doesn’t really matter tbh, people can call it a pamplemousse if they so wish, and I understand the psychological (and probably financial) pull to define something as NA so as to have ‘the last one’ … but if the 812 successor has electric assist it just isn’t an NA car, it will simply be part of another subset category in the transition between pure ICE and pure electric.
I see the point but the LaFerrari with its unbelievable sound is a hybrid - it has what feels like a peerless drivetrain and sound. I don’t think anybody ‘devalues’ it because of the KERS system
No, but I imagine many would of preferred it to not have any of the hybrid bits and extra maintenance and safety issues related to the high voltage hybrid /KERS system. Hybrid is a cheat with big costs when things go wrong.
Ground control to Ferrari-chat, Ground control to Ferrari-chat No hybridization, I repeat no hybridization Take-off early 2024 countdown ready !!!
Thank you for confirming, will put a stop to all this yellow cable nonsense and where the thread was going.. now watch the 812’***** the market… so happy the design will be closer to F12 lines..can’t wait… hit the market not **** the market
So will it be early 2024 and not September/October 2023? Do you know when we will see the mules with definitive panels? Thanks again for your contribution.
VS and Open top are the big questions. Open top very very probable considering the success of the 812 GTS If there's a VS it will be the ULTIMATE Front engine V12 to keep forever, despite the same thing was said for the Tdf & the Comp
NA means Naturally Aspirated. Period. As opposed to forced induction whether by supercharging or turbo charging (electric or exhaust driven). Has nothing whatsoever to do with other assistance whether electric or not. Period. Hybrid or non hybrid are the terms for assistance or not. It is silly to conflate the terms. Agreed, it's nice to know that it won't be a hybrid (assuming of course it's a NA V12). Curious what you mean by "now watch the 812***** the market"? I'm assuming you're suggesting that the 812 market may tank?
@JJ77 The 812SF market will tighten further (less available for sale, stable prices) for several reasons.. * (likely) current ownership required to order F167 * (guaranteed) F167 will be in very limited supply due to FUV production and limited model production using up most of the V12 production * (guaranteed) F167 has to comply with new regulations which may be too much of a distraction for some (unmodifiable quiet exhaust, always on AEB, IPS not to mention fully digital dash...which remains to be seen)
no edited my post, meant hit not xxxx the market, but bizarrely came out like that when posted. Not sure what will happen to market but I do know a few who bought thinking it was the last N/A V12 and only bought for that reason..
I was kinda hoping it was going to be Hybrid. I mean..... did someone say LAF?? Ohh Well..... Bring on another amazing NA V12 please.
Are we talking launch in 2024 or launch 2023 with first deliveries in 2024 ? I have been assuming the latter.
Ferrari have stated there will be 4 new cars launched this year. guessing:- Roma spider SF 90 VS Any other ideas, I assumed 812 replacement was one of them?
