I can't speak for the rest of you guys but I've had my '99 355 for 3.5 years and have never had any reliability issues whatsoever. And my car is not a garage queen either - I drive it hard like it was meant to be driven. My baby has only been in the shop for one engine out and the standard fluid changes...that is it! Maybe I got lucky with my car - dunno.

I just haven't experienced any of these issues I read about so frequently on this site. SO glad I didn't let them deter me from buying this magnificent machine! I still giggle like a little girl every time I gun it and hear that roar...

This 355 belonged to Yngwie Malmsteen and suprisingly got a high bid offer for the burnt seat

It recalls me of some people here in France in the 80's, who removed big V8 from US muscle cars, and instead fit in them a small 4 pot diesel engine for fuel economy reasons
Don't think about fuel economy for this type of car. It's non-sense.

For me, the only acceptable swap for a F355 is a 12 cylinder from Ferrari (for sound reason ;)).
Someone swapped a flat 12 from a Testarossa. That's cool!

If you have a 355 and want to do it, I would say it's a great idea under one circumstance. You trade me the engine for a chevy 350. Sorry but I just find this question comical. I'd like to put the 355 engine in just about anything. If it weren't for the engine I wouldn't have bought either of my 355's. The engine and sound it produces makes the car. I'm not going to say that it is the most reliable but it is certainly not bad if it is cared for correctly. Besides, who is really putting a ton of miles on them at this point anyway. Do you really need it to be more reliable? I daily drove my first 355 for a couple years and had zero issues.

An F355 without its engine is like a girl with a pretty face, but zero body to back it up. You want a GM engine in a mid engine design, there is such an animal. It's called a Corvette.

    Quite the zombie thread resurrection!!

I wonder what ever happened with the 355 > Chevy conversion plan from this original 2011 thread

Did the OP ever go forward with this?

Ours, its a very long term one though, no 355 was harmed in the conversion, the engine had long gone anyway.

    Thanks.
I just checked the all thread.
    Great!
I know too much how hard is it to make a long time project.
People can't imagine how difficult it is.

Keep the motivation up! It's worth it ;)

    A swapped 355

Sounds pretty good. Wouldn’t be a fan of any Chevy versions though. Get a Corvette if that floats your boat. For me I thought about pulling my engine and putting it in storage. But only if I could find and afford a TODA racing 355 engine to put in it.

And the opposite: a 355 swapped into a 2CV. Although it might technically be a rebodied car not an engine swap
