    THE BAY BRIDGE TESLA INCIDENT

Fans of car racing treasure their victories of famous race victories--one of my favorites is Stirling Moss in the Mille Miglia in '55.
But for street drivers the memories of car events might include accidents. And for Tesla drivers one that will come back to haunt them is the accident on the Bay Bridge in San Franciso. The accident can be viewed on the net--a white Tesla is crossing the bridge amidst a lot of traffic when it inexplicably stops dead. Other cars hit it and people are injured including a two year old.
When you look at the video there is no earthly reason for it to slam on the brakes. The car's owner admits he was on FSD (full self driving).
His accident is not alone, all over the world Teslas have done peculiar things for no good reason--such as there was a spate of side impacting tractor trailers crossing their bow. Then there was the hitting of firetrucks and police cars that had their emergency flashers on.
Meanwhile Elon Musk proceeds trying to get Level 5 totally autonomous driving (no driver required) legalized so that he can start selling models with no steering wheel and brake pedal.
The real irony is--in a court battle where he would be allowed to submit the driving records of FSD equipped Teslas vs, all brands of cars piloted by human beings, he might be able to prove Tesla cars using FSD are much safer per million miles traveled.
But it's those random Tesla accidents that stick in my craw. As that two year old survivor of the Bay Brdige accident grows up, maybe scars will prompt questions--"How'd ya get that scar?" and then he'll try to explain once again that it was just the Tesla doing its nasty phantom braking trick.
I say a partial solution is re-naming the feature (as Waymo did their competitive system) and training Tesla drivers to only use FSD in open highway situations.
Maybe Elon (the richest man in the world again), will have to reimburse every single purchaser of an FSD option on a Tesla because it was sold under a mis-leading title. We're talking millions, but at least it would discourage Elon from using the word "Full."
Don't get me wrong--I admire Elon Musk the way he singlehandedly reconfigured the auto industry, but let me compare him to a thoroughbred horse (a business in which I am involved). Lov'em but wouldn't ride one with a bridle. halter and reins to haul it down (and maybe sspurs on my boots) if it suddenly decides to run at breakneck speed
Which bless 'em, they're born and bred to so. I like 'em but only under controlled circumstances with you--the rider--in control..
    Opinions anyone?
