I think so - he was the one that bought the stolen F50 - he put a big thread up on it - great reading. MDS
Yes, he's @jasdhillon on IG. His collection has taken quite a motorsport turn... always excellent taste! Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk
I saw Jas tonight, he rolled into Amelia Island in this with his son. I asked him about it, he said it will be at the Hangar event on Saturday, which is apparently a new event from the people who run the Hamptons event 'The Bridge'. He'll have a different Porsche at the Sunday Concours. I don't know Jas personally, but from our 30 second interaction, he seemed happy to talk to anybody about his cars (both myself and the parking attendants helping him line up his Porsche and neighboring Ruf) - which I always appreciate. Just seeing this thread, thought I'd give my opinion. I think like the Countach posters, every kid had the F40 poster hanging on their walls The hype was strong, it had far more recognition. Then throw on all the other stuff like, Enzo's last car ect........... By the time the F50 came around no one was looking.
Overshadowed by the Macca F1 maybe? Also, the F40 was set up for and has the appearance of a track car. But put two of them in front of me to drive, I’ll walk past the F40 for the F50.
Seems appropriate for the thread……Harris concludes the thread title has merit. Balanced review. Incredible cinema.
I remember when this review came out and one of the interesting points raised (by folks who had owned both) was the high probability that the F50 which Harris was driving was not properly setup and that the F50 if properly setup is a better drive than the F40.
At least the Pirelli Asimetrico Tires are working not very good on the F50, as in this video. They were made for the much heavier Lambo Murcielago and have problems on the front at the F50. With the original Goodyear Tires, the F50 is so much better on track than the F40. Never driven the Pirelli Corsa System on the F50 so far, so can´t comment on them, as Semis are mounted at the moment.
A couple of non-scientific polls on IG over the past couple of days. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That @joe sackey opinion will change That the F50 time in the sun won't ever be close to the F40. There are hundreds of threads, perhaps I missed where @joe sackey said the opposite? That the F50 won't age well and become as esteemed as the F50? Though I admit, I am using the 'value' based on the market to assign 'worth' - crass of me. With aesthetics, there is not 'right' or 'wrong.' simply I must use some objective measure. *** That said @AJ if you think @joe sackey 's opinion does change with the wind and that the F50 aged poorly, I would love to hear why?
Yet you're here. You're also right that it does make me feel better to know truth from falsehood. If I make a claim, and somebody publically and vehemently disagrees, I want to see who ultimately is right. *** As far as this "Jas" character, I never impugned it, nor did I challenge his person. The opinion? You Bet! Besides, I would argue a person saying that @joe sackey will say anything depending on how the wind is blowing is a far more 'personal' attack than discussing the merits of a car. I mean, if the F50 'time in the sun' never arrived, it should not be twice the cost of the F40 yeah? Rarity someone will say! Well, with 500 units, it's twice as more plentiful then the 288, yet more expensive. hmmmm.
To be fair, the choice between these 2 cars is entirely personal preference and therefore subjective, this includes my previous comment that the F50 will age well, so there really isn't a right or wrong choice, get the F40, the F50, whatever you like, or get both as a number of people have. What is fact-based is, the F50 is several times rarer than the F40, and in today's market is worth twice as much, desirability may not be the reason for this, since the cars have become investment pieces, a simple matter of economics and the effect of rarity may be the reason the F50 is more valuable. True, and I know someone who did just that. Well personal attacks have never fazed me, since then, Jas has gotten to know who I am and what I do, has retained me for Boxer and F40 sales, and I must say my interactions with him have proved he is a true enthusiast and a gentleman, forums have a habit of distorting personalities and creating drama but as far as I'm concerned all is good. Meanwhile, I can tell you that years ago around the time I made the comments that the F50's day in the sun would come, I couldn't give them away, I recall begging a particular client of mine to buy one telling him they would be more valuable in future, he didn't listen to me, but 5 years later he finally listened and paid twice as much for one! Your comment on the 288 GTO is very interesting, I suppose anyone who's used a 288 GTO for investment speculation should indeed have purchased an F50 instead.
You are indeed a gentleman, my comment was never as an attack on a person’s character. Simply the claim, think of it as if somebody said the Cleveland Browns will win the Super Bowl last year. If I mock it, don’t think I’m hating on the person that said it. ***** @joe sackey YES! I remember the time F50s could not be moved as well, and very hated!! That was the impetus of how I found this thread, lots of other folks have disliked on various Ferrari through the years only to ultimately eat crow. Dino 246 comes to mind.
Just like in 2009 when Jill Baffert told her husband she didn't think his horse was going to win the Kentucky Derby, she wasn't hating, just stating the obvious
