Hi all, I've seen a few threads over the years, but nothing really modern. I have upgraded the head unit in my 550M to a Blaupunkt SQR46 DAB for period-correct looks. Would like to get some better sound out of the speakers though, and possibly add a subwoofer. Has anyone done anything like this recently?
this is audison. https://audison.com/product/apx-5/ the Focals were too deep to fit in the rear, did not try in front
I added the same head unit as you but changed to Focal speakers and used the Focal 4.320 amp. If you get the iso harness it plugs inline so no cutting and fits in center tunnel. Its not a house shaking setup but vastly improved stock sound
woofers etc had a 6x9 plate that fit 5 1/4's and tweeters.. this is just one example not the one I used https://www.woofersetc.com/focal-isn-130-5-25-50w-rms-component-speakers-system-6x8-5x7-adapter-plates.html
Did the 550 come with an OEM amp? I know the 575 did with an ASK amp and am surprised to find my 456 does not seem to have one?
Resurrecting this thread. It was time to sort the leather dash issue so going ahead and replacing the tweeters whilst it is out of of the car. Has anyone changed their tweets and if so, what was your choice and how did they sound? I'll be using the stock head for now but likely will add an amp in the future. Over my dead body will this dash be ever out again so this is a one shot deal. Hoping to make the most educated choice for sound and reliability so any input is greatly appreciated. FWIW, I did a side by side sound comparison of the stock 3/4" ASK tweet and an 1" Infinity that I had laying around off of long gone Land Rover. These were 20 yrs old and still are a marked improvement in tone and clarity over the stock issue. Definitely need an upgrade but we have just a hair less than 3/4" of depth to play with until it touches the venting system right below. Hoping to get a recent update of others who have added footwell/rear speakers/subs/amps over the last two years. Cheers
