Hi guys I am thinking of getting one of these for my 2011 California, I don't like how you only get the nice Ferrari sound at high revs, this unit allows you to manually open the valves, does anyone have any experience with these, also if you can use this to open the valves in the exhaust , is there anything you can do to open them without buying this

Not sure what you mean by only at high revs.
My understanding is that they are fully open at 3,000 rpm and above.
Some people plugged the lines with golf tees to have them open at all times.
You should also be aware that some people experienced a droning sound which can be quite unpleasant.

I had the capristo switch installed. Yes, it was pricey, but I really like the ability to choose when I want them open and when I want the computer to control them. I would not want them open all of the time.

I just pulled the vacuum lines and plugged them on my 2014 California 30. The valves are now open all the time. The cost was $0 and only took about 20 minutes to do.

Many people have installed these (not necessarily in a California) and they work as advertised. I've had a FORZA controller for in my 488 spider for 4 years and love it. Plugging the vacuum lines also works but, as Randy R notes, you may not want them open all the time particularly on long monotonous drives. I also like being able to close the valves on start up so it doesn't disturb the neighbors early in the morning as the 488 makes a real racket for a minute or so on start up.

I pinched off the hose in mine with a a brake clamp at one point and it did the same job as plugging it, easier to undo as well.

I didn't like it though, it was loud even at idle. I felt like that ****** who unhooked the exhaust on his 2008 dodge charger starving for attention...

To each their own obviously, granted the sound a dodge makes can't compare to the sound a Ferrari makes people actually want to hear the Ferrari. The California just seems elegant to me, it doesn't give me the vibe like it needs to be loud all the time.

Still might do it again this summer tho haha

It would be good if someone could do a video of this so we could hear the difference in it

I work a car parts company , I have asked around about this and a few people have said you can just take out the fuse that controls the unit , is this correct they said it’s the same in the Astons

There is no unit on a 2011 California that controls the valve, it is - as others say - controlled by vacuum. You can plug the vacuum line to have them permantly open or you can put in a remote controlled valve on the vacuum line for the option to control when valve is open or closed.

Where is this pipe , on the back box ? , if so do I pull it off the back box and plug it that end , that makes the valves open permanently

It is in the engine bay close to the dipstick on the left side looking into the engine bay. It is a back pipe with a red band on it

You can just make it out in this picture

It is a little louder, but not as loud as when I did it on my 488 Spider. I expected a bigger impact given the California is naturally aspirated vs the twin turbo V8 in the 488.

Ive got the Forza unit in my Cali, makes a huge difference to the sound. I can do a quick video tomorrow to let you hear it. Just as others have said, if you disconnect the hose with the red bands, the valves will stay open. You need to plug off the hose heading towards the engine as it is a vacuum line, if it’s drawing air in the mixture will be off and you’ll get the hesitation/stumbling your describing. It’s good practice to plug the metal pipe too, but not necessary.

I think the full length exhaust on the Cali quietens it compared to the short throw pipes on the rear mid engined cars.

Great you got it sorted - you are also putting a plug where you are disconnecting the pipe from, right?

    It's just good practice :)

As @Defmeister wrote earlier - You need to plug off the hose heading towards the engine as it is a vacuum line, if it’s drawing air in the mixture will be off and you’ll get the hesitation/stumbling your describing. It’s good practice to plug the metal pipe too, but not necessary.
