Unfortunately or fortunately for the 308, the Magnum PI series lasted for 8 seasons not to mention all the years of re runs.

Didn’t do as well as it was expected. The 308 market is all over.

Actually suprised it sold for as much as it did. Lots of modifications that place it far from original and who knows how many hands have touched the car. Cars bringing strong money are 1-2 owners, high level of originality, timely serviced and reasonable low mileage. Nice to see 308's getting attention that they deserve for fine exaamples. Staret of a new rise in value, much the path of the Dino, IMHO.

I found the Magnum comments annoying for the first day or two. Then I realized it was a huge part of what made people smile and love the car. Embrace it and move on was my take. Doesn't hurt that I enjoy Magnum, P.I myself now.

I can't stand it anymore. Get some fresh material.

Like hearing "Flux Capacitor" referring to a DeLorean.

I mean I guess it was funny the first 345,812,943,987,947,672 times I' heard it.

The 308 ship does seem to be setting sail to 246 Dino destinations nowadays, better snap one up if you are lurking at the port!

I know this car well, as I restored it. This particular car was the subject of a cost no object resto and was V8 class winner at Cavallino Classic. It was a healthy result for sure, but it would be quite a challenge to duplicate that car (19377) for that amount of money.

The time has finally arrived. These cars are mostly more than 40 years old which is the trigger

Is it the age of the cars that is the trigger, or the age of the enthusiasts who remember them from their "formative years"?

I believe that it is clearly the latter. While I think just about everyone following this forum is a 308 lover to some extent or another, there are many forces that have a lot of leverage on the 3X8 market as a whole. Yes, the market for these cars has moved up in general, but the 308 market as a whole has really just kept in touch with inflation. In recent years we have seen outstanding specimens of particularly desirable variants sell for prices that were unimaginable in the past, but these remain outliers. The one big barrier for 3X8 value appreciation is the fact that these cars were the easiest entry into Ferrari ownership for decades. They continue to be viewed by many as "the cheap one". The fact that a good one isn't "cheap" but is not a match for a 360 in terms of performance and general usability, while occupying a similar price point for examples in similar condition, makes the 308 less compelling to many buyers for whom this may be the only Ferrari they ever have. Yes, there are serious collectors buying the best and also spending small fortunes restoring the most desirable variants. This will only improve the overall perception of these cars in general. Due to the relatively large numbers of these cars, as well as the poor overall condition of the "average" 3X8, I wouldn't expect to see values skyrocketing ten fold as we have witnessed in the "Enzo era" classic Ferrari market. Once the 3X8 has fully shed it's image as "a great starter Ferrari" (which it isn't anymore) and 3X8s are primarily in the strong hands of dedicated and loving owners who couldn't care less whether there car is worth $50K, $80K, $100K or $200K, will 3X8 values really grow.

When I ask people what car would they would like to have if there was no problem with finances, storage, etc? They usually always answer with something from their teenage or high school years.

That might be a more frequent scenario nowadays as the cars and potential owners both passing the 40 years mark.

That's really the truth, isn't it? I think the 360 is that car now. Low price, low maintenance (you know, for an Italian exotic), great power, looks like an exotic, and reasonable build quality. How could you convince someone looking for "a Ferrari" that a 308 is the right car when 360s are about the same price?

Yes. If you are buying a 3X8 nowadays, it should be because you have your heart set on the 3X8. If you just want an "entry level" Ferrari, there are currently better options.

I agree. If you want a 308 for the looks, then go for it. I owned a 308 for seven years and that was the reason I purchased it. For me it wasn’t an entry level Ferrari and I wouldn’t recommend it for someone to be either. They are gorgeous cars but underpowered and wobbly. A 360 or a 430 would be more of an entry level Ferrari IMHO

Wobbly?!? You must have had a very poor, or at least poorly set up example.
