...The hues are muted earth tones — grays, tans, browns and others — that lack the light-reflecting metallic flake that is typically mixed in with car paint. And it’s a look that’s gone — over the course of a decade — from rare to near ubiquity in car-obsessed Los Angeles. Companies including Porsche, Jeep, Nissan and Hyundai now offer this sort of paint...

Maybe car sales are slowing down? Changing the color is the easiest fix to unveil a "newest & greatest" model.

I’ve noticed it. Kind of played out already, like dark green metallic in the early’90s.

The light grey on the 911 Sport Classic is sharp, but these putty/primer-look cars … not working for me.

Just another style. Kind of like the flat paints but easier clean up. It works really well on some cars.

We followed this when I was in the home building biz. When times are uncertain, people go for muted earth colors. When times are good, people want to Rock N Roll!

    Great question.

I really like the earth tones on the new Taycan and anthracite brown metallic on the 911s myself.

Residual Kardashian and Kanye effect - he pushed those flesh tone Yeezy shoes and clothing and wrapped his Urus a blah sand color. It caught on. These solid gloss colors are totally meh.

My thinking is the paint’s just cheaper.

I understand we’re supposed to be living in a market driven economy but….

Friend of mine says some of those colors should have the US Navy logo/seals on the doors.

I can’t stand any gray cars and also can’t stand the matte finishes— nice cars should be shiny and pretty, not look like my kitchen pots and pans.
