Hi, This is a long shot, but I'd want to try anyways, before I "settle" for a 992: I'm looking for a 458 in the $150k-$175k range. Fully aware this is not where they are nowadays, but every now and then one pops up that looks like a good fit, that just fits the budget. It be great if the color is Argento Nurburgring, but I'm down for any neutral color. Not looking for a red or white one (apparently taxi's are red where my wife is from, so she veto'd it). I don't care too much about the mileage, as long as it's well maintained. I'm in San Francisco and would prefer a car I could visit easily before purchasing. Thanks for reading,
Cars.com has a Spider for about 200K. 15K miles. Was previously in a rear end accident; according to Carfax. I don’t know car, nor the seller. Just high level info and probably caution.
Appreciate the info! I’ve seen a few at Ferrari Scottsdale below 200k, and there was one at Ferrari Redwood City that I unfortunately just missed. I’ll keep an eye out, but I think I’ll end up with a 992 and will try again in a few years (unless the IRS gives me money back ^^) Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Smart weighing your fine choices without an impulse purchase. 992’s are also wonderful cars. Plus have factory warranty. PCA is an excellent club for events too. Good luck.
I think checking all the boxes might be hard, but wholesale prices for 2010 cars seems to be in your range. The downside is if you're paying wholesale you won't get the ability to page through service records, test drive, or ask a few questions - you'd need to be prepared to bid sight unseen with some potential risk.
Pretty rare to even see any 458 go through manheim dealer auction since 2020 ..the last 2010 to go through was 5 months ago.
One just sold in December for good money and in good condition. Image Unavailable, Please Login and here's the dealership who bought it (not sure if they've already sold)
yup thats the last 2010 to sell at manheim dealer auction yellow car ..and who knows if it was green light or red light (AS IS) , i as a dealer wouldn't buy a 458 through dealer to dealer auction, always a reason why a dealer would send a hot car like to auction instead of retail it..either way this isn't manheim here, not like these guys can just walk into a manheim dealer auction and buy a car.
Thanks for all the responses! I somehow didn’t get a notification so I only just now read them. After seeing and hearing an incredible FF over the weekend, I’m going to expand my search with that . I’ll make a new post soon Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
FFs are awesome imo. And the taxi/red comment is the most bizarre crazy thing I've heard today. Police cars are black, fire engines red, taxis yellow, ambulances white...
I have an FF with some amazing mods including full Novitec exhaust that I’ve been considering selling to get a 458. If interested shoot me a PM with your cell and I can send you info and pics. The exhaust sound is unbelievable.
JMO and I’ve long been a Porsche guy. Currently have a 2011 GTS. Great car but after I drove an F430 I haven’t been able to shake it. This is the first time I’ve felt my car is missing something. The biggest difference was the engine and exhaust sound. And I’m comparing 2 naturally aspirated engines to each other. If that’s important to you definitely make a careful comparison especially since the 992 is a turbo engine. I drove a 488 and, it just didn’t do it for me. The 458 is the last naturally aspirated production Ferrari, I think. Mid engine.
I have a 991 gt3 and a 458. I enjoy the 991 much more. Can track it a lot easier and less worry about something going wrong whilst out and about. The 458 is cool but gets much less use. Car also feels a lot bigger which isn’t really my thing but I’m probably just more of a Porsche guy. Have you driven a 458 yet? I think the earlier 458s had transmission issues from what I’ve read so something to research as well. Best of luck! Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
"I think the earlier 458s had transmission issues from what I’ve read so something to research as well." When will people READ the forums and realize this is just flat wrong. Tranny issues, while quite rare, happen across ALL model years. It's just when someone has an issue they post about.
Got a '15 spider and had to replace the clutch pressure sensor at 18k miles. Not a speed sensor which is the typical ailment. The issue declared itself in traffic jam, 92 degrees with the AC on... ..scared to take it on a track, but it's still my favorite car by far.
