Hi, I am looking to purchase a 348 soon. Which version is more desirable and more expensive, TB, TS or Spider?

You trying to start a war?

In descnding order of average cost (not value), I would say:

    Challenge
    Serie Special
    GTB
    GTS
    Spider
    TB
    TS

Obviously, every car is different. This is “all things being equal.”

Not trying to start a war.

Of course all things being equal.

I thought the preference were TS, TB and Spider.

I was going by Hagerty valuation tool. They had TS higher than TB.

Dooood. Targa is more desirable than a Spider, which is lowest on the list. :) But as you know, everyone has their thing.

I'm also not a huge fan of the Serie Speciale. The seats are nice but otherwise, no thanks.

GTS/GTB are big time for me. Challenge too. Also Euro ts and tb.

But also, color combination is important, Red on tan are SO common that they do very little for me--I prefer the rare color combinations. A rare color combo ts will have much higher value for me than a red on tan Serie Speciale for example.

Anyway. To the OP's question, get whatever you like--there are three main choices (ts, tb, Spider) and lots of more specific choices. They are all great.

    Color combo, condition, mileage all
the same the TS will be the least valuable. All things being equal, the price will be determined by the rarity. My list was ordered by rarity.

Funny, not for me as a ts/GTS is my favorite version. It's by far the one I wanted. Same goes for the 355, GTS by far and away my favorite version.

But if you're sorting by rarity, you forgot the Competizione...top of the heap.

Depends on whether you like the sun on you while driving. If yes, TS or Spider. If no, then TB.

Well, it’s not just about the sun it’s about the rigidity too.

    TS/Spider pros: sun

G/TB/TS cons: rear glass is NLA. Spider tops, on the other hand, are available in the aftermarket.

I’d put it this way: if I found two equally priced, equally spec’d, 348s at an estate sale, a TB and a TS, and i wanted to fix one up and flip it on BaT I’d pick the TB. Rarity always wins.

Are you looking to flip a car? Invest in a car? Enjoy a car? What’s your angle?

TB, if you want the smooth coupe-lines of the most beautiful car in the world.

TS, if you want the great lines of 348 and an open top.

Spider, if you want really open top and don't care so much of the stunning original coupe-roofline

Stock market, if you want investment

You'd think but the 355 GTS seems to always outbid the 355 GTB. Historical BAT sales show the 348 TB did not do all that well, but maybe it was the time. Id say the TB would be worth more but the market is funny is not always true it seems. I agree get what you like, if you think to buy TB for an investment or resale you may be be disappointed.

I cannot comment about pricing (some market research would be needed) but at the time, everything without a closed top was really terrible regarding body flex - in today's cars, it's still possible to feel the difference (for those who want to occasionally drive and not just cruise around) - because without a carbon tub or a proper chassis, there is no miracle... but in the late 80s, engineering was not at today's level, so the "solution" was to throw randomly some weight and reinforcements at the body and hope for a result that did not come.
So in terms of car, I would say Competizione, GTB, TB and the GTS/TS and spider down the list.
In terms of investment, the rarity of the Competizione is an advantage, while the spider / TS / GTS may attract more interest since few people buy cars to actually drive them nowadays.

Volatility and lack of volume make it difficult to compare. Regardless, I admit the delta isn’t that significant. My point is more that as a flip/investment it’s always safer to bet on rarity…. all things being equal.

TS, best of both worlds, hands down, but seriously it depends on the individual car, condition, color. For me (no flames) never red, black or yellow. Just way too common.

    of a tb though.

It's not an investment. I want to drive it. But in few years if I decided to sell, I don't it to be difficult to sell and take big lost. I like both the TB and TS. I just want some idea for reference in pricing them when they come up for sale

If you’re not buying it for YOU then you’re doing it wrong. Get either.

    Also: “money in, money out”.
