Well, much to my disappointment, I could never get ahold of a 212,.

So, it has become time to potentially put the tool kit on the market, as I really have no use for it,
and in all likelyhood, the 212 is in Shangri-la.

It is a thoroughly complete, 100% fully non-original tool kit.
Never has been used, just some lovely patina.

Spoke to Bob Smith (of Bob Smith Coachworks) a few days ago, a very nice and kind man,
and he confirmed he is NOT making anymore of any kind.
I am really torn about selling it, as I will never find another one.

But, on the other hand I absolutely love it, a real work of art.

Bottom line, I was offered $18,000 right when the pandemic started, and the deal went South.

If you are entertaining a very close offer, I am interested in talking.
If I sell it, my son will cut my throat.

    Please PM only.

    Regards, Alberto

The good old days, when a tool kit let you rebuild the engine.

And also, were qualified to do it:cool:!
You are so right, the good old days, when you did not throw appliances away,
    you simply repaired them.

Just to give myself an alternative, I wrote BaT.
This is what I got back...

    Well, BaT, and I quote:

    "Hi Alberto,

Thank you for taking the time to complete the submission form for your Ferrari 212 took kit. It looks like an interesting collection, but at this time it is not quite right for the focus of our site.

To give you some additional perspective, we are a curated marketplace and are very selective with what we accept for auction, ultimately listing less than half of all submissions. We are almost entirely focused on vintage automobiles, with motorcycles as a smaller but significant portion of our listings, and the occasional engine, part, or accessory.

In general, we tend to select well-presented enthusiast vehicles that are not readily available on the used car market. Your tool set is interesting and desirable to the right buyer, but it is simply outside the focus of our site and for that reason we would not choose to list it.

We truly appreciate every submission and would be happy to work with you on a future automobile. I hope you continue to enjoy the site."

    'Nuff said.

    I replied:

    "Dear Mr. Glass,

    Thank you for your response.
I am curious as to some items, that are far less interesting, yet you list them.

There are Mercedes 300 tool kits as well as Porsche 365 often listed, yet mine is a most unique item.

Of course I respect your opinion, yet, it appears you have a slight bias.

    Best regards,
    Alberto "

He probably had no clue what a 212 was.

It’s true that they decline most items when they are submitted. Some buyers have been burned by trying to authenticate tools in the past so they’re very cautious now. At least that’s the story I was told. This is probably your best Avenue. The tools you see now are primarily from sellers they have a relationship with.

You are absolutely right Tim, yet, I fully disclosed that is a remake of very rare tools and box, by someone
considered an "artist" in the restoration field. They could not care less.

Besides, half of the tool kits they post, have fake / wrong tools.

Darn; that stinks. Well, I was with Bob today amazingly. He was telling me about your tools. He made each & every tool based on the authentic ones. Amazing guy.

Yes, Bob is amazing, and a really nice guy. His tools are 100% spot on...
We spoke about my set, so he remembers :)

No more comments? Well, at the end, I am just going to keep it unless it is of real value to someone with a 212.
Otherwise, no point at all in selling it.

It is a too well made kit not to keep, it is a great set, looks the part incredibly well,
looks as if made in the era, and at the end, not really a life changer, fortunately.

    Regards, Alberto

Why not put an ad in Ferrari Market Letter? It’ll get a lot more knowledgeable eyeballs than BAT.

I think you’re making the right move keeping it. It’s a very rare item, but most of the cars have their tools by now. It’s a very cool set. I would keep it advertised b/c you never know if someone will be looking for one years down the line.

I submitted a perfect 5 piece 430 luggage set with dust covers for submission months back. They declined the submission, but yet 2 days later they listed 2 more sets of Ferrari luggage. I definitely think they have bias/favorite sellers. I have a 5 piece tan 430 set that i plan on submitting but i know what the response is going to be.

Fchat, collectingcars, pcarmarket are BTB all respects. Better products. better prices. better transparency.

    BTB - just do it.
