Well, much to my disappointment, I could never get ahold of a 212,.

So, it has become time to potentially put the tool kit on the market, as I really have no use for it,
and in all likelyhood, the 212 is in Shangri-la
It is a thoroughly complete, 100% fully non-original tool kit.

Spoke to Bob Smith (of Bob Smith Coachworks) a few days ago, a very nice and kind man,
and he confirmed he is NOT making anymore of any kind.
I am really torn about selling it, as I will never find another one.

But, on the other hand I absolutely love it, a real work of art.

Sooo, do you think BaT might be the best venue to sell it? Reserve or not?
Of course it is their bottom line on that issue.

Thank you for your kind replies / thoughts?

    Regards, Alberto

Did you tell Bob you were thinking of selling it? He would be an obvious choice to see if anyone is in the market.
I would also consider Ferrari Market Letter.
And you are right about Bob. We get together for dinner about once a month. Very good guy.

BAT will most likely not allow a reserve.

Yes, I did mention the potential sale. He wrote me about the last one he sold and the amount.
I suppose I will give him a call next week. Really trying to check possibilities.

    Thank you.

I tried to sell a set of pretty rare Borrani wheels on BaT. They turned me down and I'm guessing it was because I put in a reserve, which I thought was in the ballpark.

Rarely will BaT offer reserves on non-car items.

The upside is, things typically sell quite well.

Based on my observations over few decades, auctions in general rarely seem to accept/allow consignments with reserve from individual/non-volume consignors unless the item is something truly exceptional/unique + potentially high value and expected to meet or exceed their (auction houses) estimated expectations which may be completely different than what consignor* thinks it should be worth.

    * I could fill a book or two with countless examples I’ve heard firsthand in past few decades from individuals hoping/trying to consign their antique/classic/collectible/exotic/etc vehicle or items related to them with an auction house/-venue or even multiple, only to be turned down due to their own high reserve expectations/requirements.

Thank you Timo! This is definitely not what you mention below.
I will shoot a mail to BaT, and see what they opine.

Evidently, not even here, is there any interest in the toolbox.

    Regards, Alberto

I’d imagine anyone with a 212 or two already has one or more of these and like with any other vintage toolkits (OEM or reproduction), I’m not sure there’s much practical use for them.
Just out of curiosity, what is something like this expected to be worth or what did Bob Smith sold them for ?

P.S. I too have fair amount of relatively rare vintage car items/parts/etc I’ve stashed away over the decades, only to find diminishing interest and/or values due to influx of cheap “knock-offs”, but fortunately most are things I can use on my own cars should need for any or all of them arise in next few hundred years. ;)

Well, I put the toolkit on the "For Sale section".

    Not even a reply.

My son will be very happy, will make a framed Diorama of all the parts + box.
    Gonna look great!

    regards, Alberto

Yes, BaT is unlikely to take it with a reserve, but as noted by @19633500GT, you may do quite well and, tho' rare, whatcha gonna do it with, really? I've heard ya' can't take it with you. Sold my nice 'Vette on BaT, no reserve and beat my expectations. Thousands of eyes....much more than here. I say go for it! s

    Well, BaT, and I quote:

    "Hi Alberto,

Thank you for taking the time to complete the submission form for your Ferrari 212 took kit. It looks like an interesting collection, but at this time it is not quite right for the focus of our site.

To give you some additional perspective, we are a curated marketplace and are very selective with what we accept for auction, ultimately listing less than half of all submissions. We are almost entirely focused on vintage automobiles, with motorcycles as a smaller but significant portion of our listings, and the occasional engine, part, or accessory.

In general, we tend to select well-presented enthusiast vehicles that are not readily available on the used car market. Your tool set is interesting and desirable to the right buyer, but it is simply outside the focus of our site and for that reason we would not choose to list it.

We truly appreciate every submission and would be happy to work with you on a future automobile. I hope you continue to enjoy the site."

    'Nuff said.

    I replied:

    "Dear Mr. Glass,

    Thank you for your response.
I am curious as to some items, that are far less interesting, yet you list them.

There are Mercedes 300 tool kits as well as Porsche 365 often listed, yet mine is a most unique item.

Of course I respect your opinion, yet, it appears you have a slight bias.

    Best regards,
    Alberto "

BaT probably did you a favor not listing it - let alone as a No Reserve item. In all honesty, you probably have a limited audience for a tool kit for a 212. I commend you for stating that it is non original but still think that it would be very valuable to someone with a genuine 212. FerrariChat must be a good place to start advertising. Expand your advertising onto any place that sells this type of stuff and you will find the right buyer. Good luck.

@swift53 I too, am disappointed. I feel like BaT let me down as well and for no good reason. I was also declined a slot on BaT to sell a S1 330 hood....I wasn't too surprised, but I am with your sour news. Best of luck. steve

Thank you guys, yet BaT, they list this? I do not really object, but where are the parameters?

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1950-ferrari-166/

I know a fellow that consistently lists and has never been disapproved.
Well, maybe it is for the best.
It really is a gorgeous piece of kit, and I ought to forget it and just keep it

Mhhmmm, that's a thought, then I will also need the tool kit. Lord knows how expensive those might be. :)
Unless BaT sells a 7/8 real tool roll.
