Not BS. You'd be in the same place you are today if the show was canceled because of snow. You would have done it the same. There's a reason why the good cars are locked. Because people who don't have your integrity or drive trash other peoples things and just walk away... they don't have a Ferrari for a reason.

You're right, I'll stay hone and have some Amaro... and tell those kids to get off my lawn.. ;)

People remember you for various reasons. They remember you for your encouragement, they remember you for obnoxiousness or rudeness, they remember you because you saved them when their heart stopped beating.. literally and you restarted it (BTDT). I'm sorry to be sanguine but sitting in a car has less impact than we might want to think it does. I want to think that sitting in a Ferrari gives someone this burst optimism about the world.. like a rockstar singing a song to someone with leukemia. I think that's hubris. The family holding hands with that person and being there is what really gives the impact and support. Absolutely be generous... but also be aware of what that gives you and what that gives them.

Okay, my counterpoint... I reached out at the age of 16 as I was interested in automotive design and engineering. While in the end I didn't pursue either, the concept of giving back has always resonated with me, due to Ferrari. So, for two years I had an exchange between myself and the factory.

Key point, never, ever, kill a dream!!

I also had a complete stranger toss me their keys. It was a different premise and I was shocked at their selflessness. I also declined. This was a guys built truck with all the chrome and in beautifully waxed condition. I needed to get to the hotel where my wife and kids overslept failing to pick me up at the racetrack after practice. I was still in my gear and could not find them and it was getting dark. He threw me the keys and said bring it back in the morning. I think this passion about engines, cars, and particularly racing makes us better people than we normally would be.

    Related(?) story...

I was at a Harley rally with one of my V-Rods (an unusual model) and a hot chick from Europe (where V-Rods are more popular) was admiring my bike, so I tossed her the keys.

She took it out for a solo spin, enjoyed herself greatly, and was subsequently... *ahem*... appreciative of my big HEARTedness for the rest of the evening...

I'm just a very giving person like that I guess, but the moral of the story: Never miss a chance to make a good first impression! :)

Did a similar thing with a couple of female friends in my 458 Italia. Off course in "Wet Mode" and full atuomatic. Still, their expressions were worth it.

So you didn't ask a 30 year old dude to check his pockets before getting in your car and now you're taking it out on little kids?

No I didn't and that's my point. I'm the stupid one. Blame me. Because I bore the risk and I had to pay. I also don't ask men to change into yoga pants before they sit in my car so the buttons don't scratch the seats either. ;) If it's not something in their pockets... it's a button on their pants.. "Taking it out on little kids"? Really? When is it my responsibility? What do I owe them?

Look.. You all can let whomever you want sit in your car. I don't care. Nobody cares. Just know that that is entirely at your risk and the risk to your things. There is no benefit. You think you're providing this service to people and little kids right? Making them smile? They're the same people who are deriding those "rich people" under different circumstances..

What are you going on about - some 8 year old that wants to sit in a cool car is now an eat-the-rich college student?

Because you're (rightfully) upset about what happened to your car, we're supposed to pretend that the idea of inspiring kids is a bunch of bs and that justifies your blanket hostility? This take is honestly just sad. Bob Rapp would let kids climb all over his Enzo and LaFerrari and said it was worth the smiles (and nothing ever happened). Nobody's asking you to do the same, but don't act like we're the crazy ones for getting a good feeling out of making a kid's day.

If you're so worried about your seats "wearing down" and potentially affecting the value from someone sitting in it for 30 seconds then maybe you can't actually afford to own a ferrari lol

these cars are made to be enjoyed, abused, worn-in, all of that. I love seeing an interior that has a nice patina and the alcantaras all worn. It's like brassing on a leica camera. Enzo would not approve of the garage queens.

If it's a hot model/babe I would reply, "I'd rather have you sit on my face."
All others simply say "No thank you, but I will take your picture standing next to it."
At least that way you're doing them a favor of sorts.

You are sooo cranky. Have a glass of some sort of adult beverage. See if that helps.

I've never had anyone ask but I have walked out to my car and found a kid (with parent) looking at the car with interest and offer to let him sit in it.

I've let a few of my close friends drive it but despite instruction they don't do well so better passengers than drivers.

I also let a close friends kid sit next to me in my 68 Charger and drive it around his neighborhood (even a little burnout).

Suppose it's a how do I feel in the moment thing. Nothing against a 400lb guy with a boat anchor chain for his wallet but wouldn't have offered the same to him.

Funny thing is, I do not/will not have kids but still feel it's important to share with them as young enthusiasts.

If you come in my house, take your shoes off first. I can wear mine, I paid for the hardwood floors.

You’ll also need to stand. I paid for that couch.
