I have a 1972 Daytona built in August of 1972. My Owners Manual is dated n. 34 1969/70 and the Parts Manual has a N 33/69 date. Are these correct for my car. Thanks

    Thanks
    That makes sense
My pouch is in need of a restoration as well
Clearly not the original set for my car
    I’m not surprised

    Hi Ed,

Are you saying that you have seen an owner's manual that had a marking like "?? - 1972" or "?? - 1971" on the last page?

All the "pop-up lights" manuals I have ever come across were marked "74-1973". and if that second number is a print or "valid" year, then they might have been printed after 1972.

I could imagine that in 71-72 they were just giving-out 1969/70 manuals with the supplement (which is marked "47/71") added (though oddly, the supplement does not actually say anything about the headlight operation).

Does anyone know for sure how to read those "date" markings? Or better yet, personally took delivery of a car in 71 or 72 and know that they got a "pop-up lights" manual with their car?

Regarding the parts book, I have seen a "70/72" version, but that printing includes supplemental sections marked "Settembre 1972", which would seem to place its printing after August 1972.

If Dino6304's parts book has the "Gennaio 1971" supplement at the front, his set of books might well be original to the car.

If Dino6304 decides that his set is wrong, I'd happily trade for his, straight-up... :)

    Cheers,
    Alex

This is what I always presumed was what the numbers meant, but if that is right, then either there are (1) some (seemingly uncommon) "?? - 1972" owners manuals out there, or (2) 1969 manuals were used for a very long time (possibly through 1972), or (3) the "1973" in "74 - 1973" is a typo.

I would not be willing to place a large bet on what the truth is... :)

That said, if pub #70 was after Sept 72, then pub #74 would seem plausibly to be in 1973...

Anyone happen to know what pub #s 71, 72, and 73 were?

Publication 74 is the first with a 1973 publication date

71/72 MANUAL Dino 246 GT workshop manual
    72/72 MANUAL Dino 246 GT owner's manual
    73/72 BROCHURE 365 GTB/4 brochure, reprint of 49/71 and 64/72, 27 years
    74/73 MANUAL 365 GTB/4 owner's book

So the original owners manual 34/69 used for about 4 years

    The truth is out there

Ok, so GreyBoxer shamed me into "putting in the time"; to better determine whether there really was no 1971 or 1972 Daytona Owner's Manual, what we need is a listing of all publications between the 1969 version and the 1973 version.

I was able to find most of the numbers (listed below), with the notable anomalies being:
    1) Could not find 58/71, but is is possible that "48/72" on the Dino Owner's Manual reprint (of 48/71) is a typo
    2) Could not find 38/69 (note that the year might be 1970 on this one)
    3) Could not find 51/71, but it seems plausible that this is the 1971 Dealer Directory (which near as I could find does not have any number indicated on it)
    4) Could not find 42/70. 43/70 or 44/70
Missing numbers are probably not sales literature, because they are not listed in Randall Baselt book (50/71 is not listed there either, but this may because of the claim that it is very similar to 55/71).

Anyone have definitive info on the anomalies above?.

I don't think the 72/73 era reprints were renumbered so 48/71 had reprint 1972 added (or similar)

    Excellent!

So 51/71 and 58/71 would seem to be solved.

It looks like I goofed on "36/70"; it looks like that is actually yet another 246 Owners Manual

What I listed as "36/70" is actually 38/70, as you point out. So another one solved.

So, only 42/43/44 are the remaining mysteries

    Hi Kerry,

    Also excellent!

Do you happen to know what the differences were between the three (four if you include 41/70) 246 brochures? Were they for different markets?

Jimmie is right, I need to stop asking questions that I can investigate myself; particularly when I am intrinsically inclined to always verify myself anyway... :)

So I can confirm that there are at least Italian and French versions of 41/70 (that have this same document number on them).

I also found one for sale that claims to be in German (though there were no pictures that showed any of the text).

Assuming that the German claim is not in error, that would seem to indicate that there were at least 4 printed versions of 41/70; which would seem to line up...

Here is the final revised listing (and many thanks to Jimmie and Kerry!):

In 1965 the factory started to number their official publications, owners manuals, sales brochures, books, handbooks, posters, postcards, spare parts catalogs, folders, dealer directories, workshop manuals, etc.
    It began with:
    01/65 = 275 GTB/GTS Owners Manual blue cover I/E/F.
The first two digits being the print number (not the number of copies printed!), the second one being the year of publication.

Today (December 2022) the latest factory publications are numbered like this:
8104/22 = Ferrari Yearbook 75th Anniversary Edition 2022 (hardbound book).

Which means there have been approx. 8'000 factory publications since 1965. Most but not all factory publications got such a number from 1965 to 2023. However, there are also plenty of anomalies.
Such stuff is also important for collectors of official Ferrari literature and there are many all over the world.
