Newer stuff is becoming common. 355 on down are now considered classic. Those get the attention.

Had a 65 vette in for an odd overheating issue. I drove it around to be sure I fixed it. Was out in it for about an hour or so. NEVER in my life have I experienced attention like that..ever. Females were head over heals over it..stop light conversations with everybody..thumbs up from the bum on the corner..Un frigging real. I drive Ferrari and Lambo every day. Never have I had anything bring the attention like that damn Chevy. The only other car that can come close was the 57 vette I drove around for a day or so about 10 years ago.

^ Agreed. F355 and 993 get some attention. 69 Charger a bit more. 59 Cadillac almost overwhelming. Which surprises me as I didn't think most would even know what it is much less care.

I know- I'm lucky enough to have Ferraris, a Porsche and a Hellcat which are all targets-

But at least for me I have to realize that while yes it can be annoying I can't be a hypocrite- growing up- and lower middle clas at best- in my 1978 Chevy Monza with the air cleaner top upside down if I saw a Porsche- or MY GOD a Ferrari I wanted to "bump chests" with it- more out of envy/fantasy/jealousy than anything else-

So now that I've managed to realize my dreams of car ownership when a young person in a Subaru WRX or BRZ with big coffee can exhaust or a beat up 66 Mustang wants to "race" me in my GT3 Touring or 458 or Hellcat I don't engage but simply wave and maybe blip the throttle a few times-

While it's annoying at the end of the day they are "car people' just like us and most of us have been there-

Just my 2 cents- Cheers

Lots of times. I was beside a large delivery truck at a stop light and the young man asked to race. I said sure, and then let him accelerate like a mad man. I drove away slower than normal. He had a massive grin on his face at the next stop light.

I feel most of the time they just want to see the car take off or simply want to hear what Ferrari is all about...the glorious music it makes. Fortunately for them, almost always I end up taking the bait at some point! Only because when I was a 9 yr old and all the years up until today at 53, I still want to hear a car and its engine on load. I guess you can not take the car fanatic in me out of this body.

Tbakowsky, I had a '64 C2 coupe I restored. Midnight blue. I have owned countless 6 Porsches, 5 Ferraris etc. The vette received the most attention by far!

My brother's toy car is a 65 Vette, his wife's is a high end Porsche - and they get invited to "cars and coffee" events with other Porsche-people.
At those events my brother's Vette gets more love from bystanders than ANY Porsche in the crowd. :)

In 30+ years of Ferraris, I would get either thumbs up or middle fingers. With a McLaren nothing but smiles, thumbs up, people wanting to ask questions and taking pics. Racing challenges? Rarely, as I am usually driving 20+ faster than everyone else. They leave well enough alone! :)

Nice garage. Which one do you prefer, if you could only take one out for the day? Your lights are giving me PTSD though :p. I've had some rare downtime from office work, so I have been breaking those down to prepare them for proper recycling. I know where ever 9/32 location is like the back of my hand and swear I could rebuild the board at this point....

All the time. Mustangs and Challengers and any BMW’s. The BMW guys are the worst, at least they are where I’m at. Every car brand has ****** bags but the most per capita seem to be with BMW in my experience.

The McLaren will leave the CS for dead. The Mac would leave my old F40 for dead. Neither would know which way it went. At my favorite track the CS and the F40 are pretty close to each other. I'm 5+ seconds/lap quicker in the McLaren. I'd take the Mac. And I always tell people... "And this is the slow one"!

Those sodium vapor lights came with the house. I think they are the same lights as the gym in my HS! As bad as they are, they are bright enough to work on the cars at night.

Haha! They probably are the same ones from your prom! The sodium vapors seem to last forever... Given their enormous size, they have much better heat dissipation than earlier LED models and last much longer than the proclaimed 50,000 hours of those early LEDs. The good news is we are seeing a much lower early failure rate on new LED linear high bays (post-2021, I would estimate). The UFO variants specifically have greatly improved compared to the 2-foot LHB.

Anyway, back to the actual discussion here, the beautiful cars in your garage! I am envious of you, my brother. The Orange McLaren really gets the blood flowing. How does the exhaust sound when its zooming around? McLarens seem like real track beasts. On the road you also prefer the McLaren as well?

What a great collection of vehicles you have amassed, and reading some of your posts in other threads (would you let someone sit in your Ferrari), you seem like you really enjoy them and let others enjoy them to the fullest. I love to see it, and I hope you keep having amazing times in these cars!

McLarens are amazing performers, but the Italians do the exhaust better. Not that the Mac sounds bad, it's just not the great Ferrari/Lamborghini sound.
The Mac is better on the road as well.

I largely have the same experience in my black 488. I ponder if it’s because the C8 is out and fairly exotic looking if people just assume it a Vette.

When someone wants to race me it’s either; a Hellcat, a Mustang and for some reason a ton of kids driving F150’s with an EcoBoost engine.

The only time I took the bait was for a Mustang, during the absolute height of the pandemic when the police were not pulling people over for speeding. I’ll hand it to the kid in the Mustang, his car pulled hard, but not hard enough to keep up. :)

Pandemic driving were some of the best times ever. Gas was cheap, the roads were clear, and getting outside of the house was literally a breath of fresh air.

I believe it isn't because they don't have "class." But, because they want to see the car perform. Personally, and I know this may suck to some. The exclusivity of these car categories will disappear soon, and you'll have many people able to afford and drive them, unless they bring the pricing up to around $700k-$1M. In the US, Rad Tech programs are only 1 year, and can be done at 18/YO, They are paying $3k-$4k per week. My Wifes just a regular old 2 year of schooling nurse, and earns $9k (15-20 years ago, it wouldn't even be possible) per week, and I earn $3,500/WK. I didn't even go to school and we're both 27. Someone the other day showed me the median income in California was 41k each? and it just made me think, are they 2 working adults who work the Minimum wage jobs for $15.50 an hour and then those same people complain that they can't afford a 600-700k home? Through the "trash" members of society, there are actually a lot just like us out here coming up. We didn't have to open our own business, find a Niche, invest into Crypto or NFT's, or go to Medical school/Law school. We just work regular everyday jobs and neither have student loans. Now! I don't doubt there are many people who exist that make $1M+ per year regularly and own a collection, but I'm speaking for the regular everyday working society as a whole and not the business owners. Instead of trust funds, and parental income support, the regular population is earning 3-5k per week each on average at 19-20, and asking to live with their parents until 25-27 to get ahead. Even through all the Market scare tactics social media wishes to induce, or the housing market "we can't afford a down payment." Facade, it's only due to those people not willing to work a regular career, and they believe fame and fortune will fall into their laps if enough people see their face, which is like waiting on the Lottery. Another thing, If you search online, people claim you need to earn $300k+ to afford a Ferrari, and it just isn't the case in reality. I've been looking into purchasing a 500k car as of recently, and even if we only earned 300k per year, 28% to taxes, $4,200 to the 700k Mortgage, and the $5,500 a month payment after putting 50% down 11% APR, it would leave someone $7,600 a month. Even if you didn't already have a 50k emergency fund setup for the car, 98% of the time it would be in my climate-controlled garage, which leaves many months of being able to save 20k a year towards a maintenance fund. That's for 500k, when you look and find rides for 250k-280k at the 300k/YR income, 4-5 years paid in cash without breaking sweat. I :( like Jets though, so that will truly be my "Stretch."

You have the capabilities to own anything you want, you just can't own everything :).

I think the only question I truly have, did you ever reach a point where you thought your house didn't look normal for the taste of which you developed? like does it ever make you feel like you need to upgrade the size of your home/style? Also, how the hell do you get over trusting society and driving the thing on the road????

Wow- you are one entitled and delusional and lucky guy….. you are in for a shock as you grow older….. ‘a regular old nurse with 2 yrs of schooling making 40k/mo??’ You think that’s normal? Not only is it not normal, it’s a lie…. 98% of nurses don’t earn anywhere near 9k/mo, never mind per week. And you making 15k/mo at whatever you do is also WAY above mean income levels…. And your math of expenses and taxes are also entirely off…. Consider yourself super lucky for now. Brace yourself for reality. Yikes.

I think your feelings are likely hurt due to being at a workplace for far too long, in a time when you didn't really have the world at your fingertips. Travel Nurses 100% do make 8k-9k per week, and here's the kick, she doesn't have to choose assignments across the country, she can choose them in our state roughly 55 miles from us. CRNA's (what she's working towards), make $250HR, work 24 hour shifts with a room in the hospital, and earn $6,000 per day. I think you need to get to googling pal. I don't think I'm extremely lucky, I moved out at 21. I earned $1,300WK while my wife was in school. We've been together 7 years. We put the time in, when she started earning $55HR in the early stages, I went on to get myself in my position. It isn't hard to understand teamwork effort, can make anything possible. If you are solo, or have one that doesn't want to work? sheesh that sucks. Possibly, you're down south in FL or GA, where the pay is trash. They were offering to pay her $30Hr in those areas too. We got the hell out, and never looked back. Also, when we work 60 hours a week each, I don't know how the math can't make sense. In this day and age if you aren't at minimum in a position to earn $45Hr+, you're in a world of broke.

It's just 5 12s, if you can't hang, don't. How many hours do you think Surgeons work per week? 100+. How many hours do you think police work per week? 60+. I mean if you can drink fresh from the tit, by all means good for you. Children in Medical school study 50 hours a week. If you enjoy not making your full earning potential, Enjoy :p
