First - I don't smoke weed. I noticed yesterday that my car has 4 body colored magnets attached to the rear deck lid (engine cover), in pretty much the furthest spaced louver corners (left/right, forward/backward). They are very roughly 3/8 by 1/4 inch by maybe 1/16 thick (I did not measure them).

Sorry I don't have a photo right now - but are these normal? What do they do? I only noticed because I found one of them sticking up a bit.

Larry, maybe the previous owner used them to hold down a plastic sheet so water wouldn't enter the engine bay when he washed his car.

Those magnets are used for extra downforce

Interesting theory - but it's strange they are body colored

I'd say "Detroit Agate" but it's more like Maranello.

Let's see how strong those magnets really are. Have you tried going through a bank drive-thru or parking next to an armored car?

I'm not a conspiracy kind of guy, but I'm wondering if my magnets had anything to do with the SpaceX launch "unplanned disassembly".

That's funny - because in the late 80's and early 90's I worked for Amoco Technology - where Amoco (the oil company, eventually acquired by BP) put all their non-oil, non-chemical, high tech research ventures. I worked mainly on laser related stuff. And kids - lasers are NOT toys. Small ones can blind people pretty quickly!

Looking back, it was the best time I've ever had in a job. According to some of my colleagues at the time, we were "pulling back the foreskin of science". Business unit got shut down in early '94. Not sure where Biotech stuff went. Laser stuff mainly went to Scientific Atlanta (a cable tech provider). Other not-near-term commercial stuff was dropped. Vacuum microelectronics was the main one. Very fun times for a young engineer! But then I got an MBA and much higher paying jobs - and that's why I can afford to buy Ferrari's.
