I did not know that, but it was actually the French VAT that was initially charged twice to me - first by ebay when ordering, ebay claiming they will take care of the import process, but since they did not, UPS also charged me the same VAT (plus some processing fees) to clear the import. So I ended up paying the French VAT twice, as well as some charges from UPS. Eventually with ebay refunding the VAT they collected and did not use, I will have paid the VAT and UPS processing charges (so the now standard charges on imports from the UK).

I stopped buying books from people using the eBay International Shipping serivce long ago, because eBay is charging such ridiculously high import duties and handling fees (and, as I learn now, VAT).

Once, I took interest in a Palawan book which was priced 600 GBP. And eBay was charging an additional 120 GBP (!!!) for shipping, handling and duties to Germany. No thanks ...

I have had great success in sending the seller a photo of my email address which gets around eBay messages not allowing through when entered in body of message. If the seller is accomodating usually the eBay fee 12% is waived and normal postage applied with also import duties not applied as well.

The latest draft is almost finished, there are still reviewing processes going on in the background. Better to delay a few weeks and get it completely right than publish in a hurry....

It is actually available already. My copy is on its way to me so I will post my thoughts here when it arrives but I am very much looking forward to it having seen some of the preview photos Paul Baber has posted on Instagram.

I said I would post my impressions of Superbears, the new book about Hesketh Racing when it arrived. Well, it has just arrived. Only time for a very quick flick through so far but I can tell you it looks absolutely superb and I have no hesitation in recommending it even after having had it for only a few minutes.

I ordered McKlein publishing's Nurburgring Album after it was recommended on another site a few days ago. The book takes you around the Nurburgring in pictures (B&W and colour) from the 1960s. Not a guardrail in sight! Text is in German and (excellent) English. But it is really a picture book and the pictures are superb. Plenty of Ferraris featured too.

I also bought Driven to Crime by Crispian Besley based on positive reviews, this time in a couple of motoring magazines. It covers a variety of people connected to motoring/motor racing and their involvement in crime, either as the perpetrator or the victim. Some of those covered have a Ferrari connection (Lord Brocket, Scott Tucker, Gene Haas etc.). The book takes a couple of pages to cover the background of each person and then covers the crime they were involved in over a few more pages. I'm afraid that my opinion of the book is not as positive as the reviews I read. It feels a bit like reading a series of Wikipedia articles and, whilst I know of some of the people covered, there are a number I don't and I just didn't find their stories interesting enough to care.

Just arrived a few moments ago and, as promised, my first impressions of Neill Bruce's book, 50 Years With Ferraris.

Neill Bruce was UK importer, Maranello Concessionaires, photographer of choice for many years, taking their publicity shots. In this book are a number of those pictures together with his reminiscences. Since the cars photographed were mostly the current models in the 1970s, '80s and '90s, you won't find pictures of any models you haven't seen before and being taken for publicity, some of the shots will likely be familiar, especially to UK readers. The more interesting pictures, to me at least, are those at the Factory and Maranello Concessionaires' workshop. The extra information from the text helps to add interest. Overall, not an essential purchase but I'm very pleased to have added it to my collection. Owners of any of the cars pictured within would certainly be remiss not to purchase a copy, with the possible exception of owners of the two damaged Dinos in one of the photos taken in the body shop!

I convinced my local public library to order “Driven to Crime.” I’m glad I read it but also glad I didn’t buy it. Rather chilling that I had dinner at a Porsche Club meeting with serial killer Christopher Wilder not two weeks before he began his murder spree….

I just ordered a copy. USA based readers might consider using www.blackwells.co.uk. I paid $102.74, inclusive of delivery, and without any sort of sales tax being charged. Seems like reasonable value compared to the other options. Hopefully, they know how to pack a heavy book acceptably (fingers crossed)... Vendor options have diminished with Book Depository being no more.

I have used Blackwell's in the past with no problems at all. Although, I ought to add that the books I ordered from them didn't need to cross the Atlantic to get to me.

    Thank you Jonathan.
Now the big question is: HOW on earth can somebody in Switzerland get a copy of this book? Any reliable supplier at all that actually delivers to Switzerland? (Amazon does not).
I don't care about the price, all I want is the book!!
    Thanks for all help.

Chaters also have copies but I don't really know who is or isn't delivering to Switzerland or why.

Edited to add that you can also order from the publisher's website: www.evropublishing.com

They show Switzerland as an option but I don't know whether it will work or not.

I think it can be ordered directly from the publisher, but I have no idea if they deliver to Switzerland, but they will probably tell you if you inquire. Right now there are no distributors in the U.S. that I know of, otherwise I could try to purchase it here and have it delivered to you.

I have just dropped a note to EVRO as I am working with them, and asked about getting a copy of the book sent on to Switzerland. I will let you know what they say.

Thank you. You might also ask if there will be a U.S. distributor. I ordered from Book Depository but in the meantime Amazon has closed them. Thanks again,
