This year’s Aston is a great car for a brand new base car with no upgrades (yet), but not a great high speed car. On a track like Australia with four drs zones Alonso still couldn’t catch Hamilton and left Lance vulnerable to the high speed passes by Mercedes and Alpine in those zones.
Hopefully the coming upgrades will help their 6-8 kph deficiency and bring some great racing.

I think the Aston will be the car to beat in Monaco. It's insane in the low speed.

Perhaps Alonso's best hope for a win this season.

Certainly a good chance...but I think a win is still possible with a bit of misfortune from the bulls in the race. Could be reliability, horrendous pitstop that sort of thing.

Certainly grid spot penalties on circuits where passing is difficult will be a factor this year.

Lance looping it into the wall. Alonso just in time for new tires.

Thing is, it could happen naturally as Lance has similar talents in that regard to Piquet Jr.

And Alonso in the AM could be close enough behind the RBs to get a real advantage out of it.

If it would happen truly randomly, nobody would ever believe it was innocent.

PS: An interesting plot twist would be a role reversal: Alonso crashes to give Lance a chance at a podium. Stroll Sr. might even cook that up.

    I'm on a (st)roll here:

Q3 at Monaco, Alonso just put down the fastest time, but the RBs haven't set their best times yet. Then suddenly with 90 seconds left, Lance loses it in Rascasse and parks the car. I'm so creative...:p

I don't know gents about the AMR23 at Monaco this year. It's a formidable car but the RB19 I feel looks to take P1 and P2 in Monaco.

The one thing that could be true for this is that we haven't seen the Red Bull in quali trim at all this year. They've sacrificed quali speed for race speed every race so far. So they could spoil the party indeed...

Ferrari should have hired Newey 15 years ago. Even if it cost them half the enterprise, it would have been worth it. Just think about all the RB titles since.

They tried 3 times...2014 they had the best chance to do so and literally offered him the keys to it all...F1, road cars...the lot, with an unheard of salary to boot. And Newey at the time actively looking to leave Red Bull as he believed Renault had zero interest to actually create a decent engine or capable of doing so. If they didn't mess it up we'd have been looking at a very different landscape now. 17-18-19 could very likely have gone Ferrari's way. No need to create that engine they did, no need to do a new one for 2020...22 and 23 easily ours.

So I read that Alonso helped the Stroller during the race by letting the 'other side of the garage' know what setting he made to his car.
This is unusual and almost unheard of. One thing is the technical director or driver engineer going above to convey info across drivers,
but that the driver purposely doing so, it's different. And now Alonso is saying that he's going to help the Stroller to stay in F1 for 10-15
years. Interesting. Has Alonso matured now? That's a nice touch, and for the Stroller, that's the best news he's got this year.
Having Alonso as a coach for the next two years, what else can you ask?

Alonso prepping Stroll to lead Aston 'for the next 10 to 15 years' (gptoday.com)
Alonso prepping Stroll to lead Aston 'for the next 10 to 15 years'
Fernando Alonso says his assistance to Aston Martin teammate Lance Stroll in last weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix reflected his desire to prepare the young Canadian for the responsibility of "leading the team for the next 10 or 15 years."
So far, and contrary to many pre-season predictions, there has been no friction between the always candid Alonso and team owner Lawrence Stroll's son.
Ahead of the start of the 2023 season, the Spaniard publicly stated that he believed Stroll has the speed and talent to fight one day for the world championship, adding that he would readily help the 24-year-old realise his potential.

It's perhaps worth noting that Alonso extending a helping hand to Stroll has come while the F1 veteran has consistently dominated his Aston teammate on the track.
In Baku, as both drivers were running together in the early stages of the race, Stroll informed his team that he would not attack his teammate as "we're both playing the same game".
Later in the race, Alonso communicated a brake balance setting to his crew, suggesting they pass it on to Stroll.

Asked about the chatter, Alonso said it was all about a collaborative effort between the drivers and the team, and also about helping Stroll for the future.
"We talk a lot during the weekend, already from Thursday – what we both felt here in the past, in traffic what we will do, what will be the plan for each of the cars," he explained, quoted by .
"If we feel something in the car during the race that we didn’t speak about and there’s something new that can help the other car, normally we communicate to the team.
"Yeah, it has been like this. I know that I will be in the sport for a few more years but not many, and he will lead the team for the next 10 or 15 years, so I hope I can help Lance in the next few years."

Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack applauded his drivers' collaboration, saying it was "fantastic to see".
"It shows the maturity of Lance and Fernando, the way they work together, the way they also act with each other," he said.
"They have clearly understood that our opponents are not the [other] green car, but others, and I think if we can manage to keep this harmony between the two, pushing each other but also helping each other where it matters, it will only benefit us in the long run."
Krack disagreed however with the working relationship between Alonso and Stroll being characterized as one between "big brother and little brother".
"Lance is not a little brother, they are both equal level," he insisted.
"You have many times where Fernando looks at what Lance is doing and vice versa, so I think they are proper team-mates, not big brother and little brother. "You can say older and younger perhaps."

If you look at Red Bull, Ferrari and even Mercedes, Aston Martin is the only top team where the drivers are not at war with each other.

I know....I heard the exchange between Lance, the pitwall, and Alpha-lonso.

But 10 to 15 years Lance to "lead" Aston Martin. I personally don't see Lance, at the moment, taking the leadership role. I certainly didn't see it in the track the last 6 years.

Alonso has to "take the party line" for everything to bathe in oil at Aston.
He likes the car, he likes the team, so that is worth a pinch of hypocrisy too.
    Mike Krack does the same.

I could think of worse people to lead the team long term. Lance seems like a good guy- well spoken, likable and above average as a driver. With Alonso's mentorship and a good car he could be someone to reckon with on the grid. They all may be parroting the party line here but so far this season things are working out.

I think he´s below average as a driver, not likeable at all, and a spoilt brat. I also think someone had a conversation with him and expalined him that he better shut up and try to learn a few tricks from Alonso cause he was gonna get mugged anyway!
