    Friends,

I'm sure I've told the story before but I'll tell it again. When I first got my GT4 I was all excited and took a class from my local college on air conditioning and used my car as my final project. Evacuated the system, filled it up and the fan stop working! I got an A anyway ( I guess because I brought the Ferrari to class), replaced the fan, and it was blowing really cold out of the vents, but even on a warm day it didn't do anything to cool the car because the greenhouse effect of the windscreen is so big. I found out it only really worked on a cool day which you don't need it for anyways. And on top of that these cars were designed back when R12 was plentiful and thought to be harmless, and so you need to recharge it every year for it to even work, even though it doesn't.

So I keep everything on the car to look original but I stopped filling it up at that time. I want to keep the correct amount of oil in the compressor for who knows why. I wish I could cycle it on but I think it won't work and less the system is filled??? Does anyone know how to get this unit pumping without the system being filled??

On my euro GT4 that was completely restored, they completely switched the system over there to R134, and it's the same thing, it doesn't cool, and it all leaks out after a year.... Luckily I live in a climate that doesn't get very hot. I think it took Ferrari another 10 years to sort out AC.....!

BTW I got a bottle at Napa. I told the guy to hold it for me, but probably no one else would want it today, and he made a comment that no one else had wanted it for years! ha can you still even get R12???

Yorks are plentiful. They are not specific to Ferraris or Porsches. In fact, many big rig trucks use them. Most automotive a/c places have them (although the York 206 is less common). It is our narrow metric Ferrari-specific a/c clutch that is pretty much unobtainable.

You could just jumper the clutch on the compressor. There are two wires going into the clutch; one ground and the other 12v.

Contrary to popular belief, R12 is not illegal, it is just strictly controlled and no longer manufactured. You need an EPA Section 609 license to legally work with the stuff. It IS nasty stuff; both a greenhouse gas and an ozone depleter.

Correct, R12 has been obsoleted by market forces, but it is still "out there"....

    Friends,

Trying to put my compressor back on and forgot that to make this removal/installation easier I lock-tighted the nuts on the studs and put the studs in from the top but to do that you have to put the back one in first before you attach the AC support, which I forgot to do, so I had to take everything apart again. And of course when the compressor was laying on its side it started leaking out all the oil I just put in it. Is there a screw on cap that you can put on both sides of the compressor outlets to keep oil from leaking out while installing??? Does anyone off hand know the thread sizes on this york?? The leaking oil is such a PITA I will try to find some caps if available!

I think I've told you before I never plan on using the air conditioner I just want it on for appearances. If so do I really need much oil in it??? On the GT4 this thing is really hard to get in or out. I've always taken it out from the top but this time I got out and in from the bottom, but boy there's no room to do this easily because it holds up on one of the studs which catches on the clutch assembly as it has to turn a little bit to get it in position and that starts pumping oil from the crankcase up to the outlets...

    Hello,

where is the "internal oil" in the York added? If I understood correctly, the York 210 have two oils, one for the "crankcase" and the other one that flows inside the high pressure hoses?
