Hi all, this year a new auto museum will open his doors in germany: Das Nationales Automuseum - The Loh collection will show 150 cars from the Friedhelm Loh collection, including some very interesting Ferraris.... https://www.nationalesautomuseum.de/ stay tuned... best wishes, BjörnS
I'm really looking forward for the opening of that museum, looks like it will be a phenomenal selection of cars. Any clue about when it will be opened? Jorge HG
So among the 150 cars I have records for: - Auto-Union D-Type #76004 - Bentley 4.5 litre #KM3077 - Bugatti Type 35B #4914 - Bugatti Type 43 #43-181 - Bugatti Type 43 #43-292 - Bugatti Type 55 #55-238 - Bugatti Type 57C #57-745 - Bugatti Type 59 #59-123 - Ferrari 250S #0156ET - Ferrari 330P #0820 - Ferrari 330P3/ 412P #0844 - Ferrari 330P4 #0858 - Ferrari 250GT SWB #1807GT - Mercedes-Benz SSK-Type #36249 - Mercedes-Benz 500K #105390 - Mercedes-Benz 540K #408374 - Mercedes-Benz W154 #189439 - Mercedes-Benz W196 #0006/54 - Porsche 917k #012/021 - Talbot-Lago T26GS Coupe #110111 It will be fascinating to see what else he has in his collection, a friend visited it pre covid and said he was sworn to secrecy but that a museum was planned and that it contained all sorts of treasures!
I spoke briefly with industrialist billionaire Friedhelm Loh at Chantilly in I think 2016, asking him if he had reviewed the file of an important racing Ferrari I was brokering then, which I had sent to his man in charge. He was very pleasant and funny, he said: "Not yet, you know I get so many files it rains car offers every day!" He was wandering through Retromobile this year, alone, like your average enthusiast. To say he is influential in Germany is an understatement, here he is a few years ago with "Mutti" the long time Chancellor Angela Merkel. The museum is not located near any big city or airport but at least it is not too far east. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I visited the collection twice to inspect a car. Before the entire collection was moved to the new museum, it was secretly located in a very small village in Germany. Next to the listed cars above, the collection also contain about 3 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, 300SL Roadster, Bugatti Veyron, an Aston-Martin DB4 Zagato, the F1 car of Häkkinnen, at least 3 Ferrari F1 cars, a Porsche 959 (ex-Walter Röhl), 2 Porsche 904, 2 Porsche 550RS, Alfa GTA, Alfa Romeo 8C Long Chassis, Alfa Romeo "Bimotore" and these Maserati: - 250F #2529 (the Fangio-winner car from the Nürburgring 1957!) - 300S #3058 - A6G 2000 Frua-Spyder #2191 - A6G 2000 Frua Coupé #2114 For sure this is one of the best European car collections. Will be interesting to see the new museum and how the cars are displayed.
Nice to see him displaying this fantastic collection. Another place to put on the petrolhead must visit list.
Great stuff, thanks..................... Will be intrigued to see which Aston Zagato, Alfa 8C and Porsche he owns!
Would love to see recent photos of 0858 and see if they fixed it or if it still looks weird from when it was for sale/at retro.
I guess it still looks different to 0856, but better than I remember. (I'm in the minority that wishes it was kept a Can Am car, which I thought was very cool...)
judging from the website, it seems that #0844 is part of the collection, while #0858 might not be. It resides in Germany as well though.
The museum is scheduled to open on 23 July. It's in Ewersbach, a small village in the middle of Germany, around an hour from Frankfurt, and just off the A45 Autobahn. Entry to the permanent collection is 19 Euros for adults, special exhibitions cost 9.50 Euro, or both for 25 Euros. The first special exhibit is due to be 100 years of Le Mans. Opening hours Weds thru Fri 11:00 - 18:00 and weekends 10:30 to 18:00. closed Mondays and Tuesdays The owner of the collection is a billionaire with a company called Rittal that makes metal cabinets for electrical systems and computers. His company is mainly based in this area of Germany, but has factories around the world. The area is hilly and has quaint towns with old timber-beam houses. Otherwise it is very sleepy. The information regarding the museum comes from a flyer I was given today
