So i think we had a breakthrough on mine over the weekend, we set up the F1 system having removed it from the car onto a test rig and cycled through a number of programs and found the following problems:

    1) Solenoid EV2 was giving low readings, all remaining solenoids were pushing 110psi+, with EV2 running 69, we then replaced all 6 solenoids and they jumped up to 130/140 psi, but EV 2 was still low at 89
    2) We then found the EV1 pump line was crimped & this was reducing the PSI into EV 2, this was also replaced and pretty much seemed to resolve the issue & was cycling through all the gears with good PSI to all solenoids
    3) We think the combination of a slightly dodgy solenoid and the crimped pipe was struggling to get the actuator to the right position to select the gears insitu

The system will be refitted today back on the car and fingers crossed it resolves the issue fully

Seems like these guys know what they are talking about, taking a structured approach to each problem and systematically working through each of them until you find the fault at hand.
Hope that London Paris gets his car sorted soon, i feel for him!

No luck today. The factory intervention was not successful but the reason was unexpected. They requested the dealer to source an SD3 and they will try again - maybe a problem with the new diag system. An SD3 is being sent from the dealer in Cannes tomorrow so maybe by the end of the week we can try again.

It is a bit concerning that they, including the factory, have no idea what actual problem is or how to fix it at the moment.

Even if I bought a Cali30 last year (loved by both my wife and I), I still have an itch to add a V12 4-seater. Does it mean that long-term it’s much better in terms of maintenance owning a 2005/2006 612 (not an OTO)? Easier life it seems. I love the 612 design (the FF too but afraid of the PCU situation).

I'm dreading the bill though, its had pretty much new everything except a gearbox at this point, the only good thing is the Indy broke it (not sure how) so hoping the labor will be generously discounted !

Just to add some detail, the dealer is using the DEIS system which, I believe, uses a software emulator (SDX) to replicate SD1,SD2,SD3 functionality. This HW/SW combo does not work with the 612 OTO gearbox ecu (crashing repeatedly is what i was told), hence the request for an actual SD3.

With luck they will try with the SD3 tmrw.

I hope the dealer has someone there that still remembers how to use the SD3!

Yeah, the guy at the dealership still needs to remember how to hook up the SD3 in "pc mode". I had an SD3 for a while - you can control it on the device itself, or run it over a computer. I'm sure they'll figure it out, its just really old tech now. :)

It is sad to say, but if your Ferrari is more than 10 or so years old, you are on your own. Ferrari doesn't want to know you after that.

My 2008 612 OTO had a transaxle line rupture. There was no part available anywhere, not in the US, Canada or Europe. Fortunately my independent mechanic got the part manufactured and no surprise, it was better than if I had sourced the original part from Ferrari.

Fortunately this was a mechanical part which was easily fabricated. When it comes to electrical parts I might not have been so lucky.

No joy with the sd3…waiting on feedback from the factory on whether to send them the gearbox ecu for repair while an order for a new one is placed in parallel.

I am guessing we are headed for 12 weeks or more to change the clutch…ridiculous

Ouch and I am sorry to hear that.

I have an issue I have been avoiding/neglecting/ignoring (choose one) but I do need to get fixed. I have already resigned myself to it being 5 figures. The only question is where in the 5 figures it lands. It could be relatively simple but when the code doesn't exist in the SD and they need to contact the factory, I am assuming it will go WAY off the rails as we dig into the issue. But that is another thread.

Yup; both are CFC301F hardware. The only difference is the firmware loaded onto them.

I have a friend who thinks he is able to help... can you confirm what the precise symptoms are? I understand that:
    - the gearbox light is on?
    - there are no fault codes stored on the TCU
    - the car is stuck in neutral and will not engage any gears
    - this all started when the dealer used an SDX tool to carry out the gearbox self learn?

I assume the gear indicator is correctly showing "N"? Does the F1 pump come on when the door is opened?

My pal said he had this exactly the same issue with a car serviced by a Ferrari dealer in Egypt. He was able to fix the problem when they sent him the TCU, which I have to believe, as he's a seriously talented guy. He's saying the isue relates to a software bug in the SDx program that causes something in the TCU to get scrambled.

Yes to all including the pump coming on when you open the door. If you plug in a 599 TCU all appears normal and you can shift gears.

But how do we program the repaired tcu if the relearn is the problem? Use an SD3, manual entry of parameters?

And of course, if I get the tcu in my hands how long does it take?

    Rgds,

    Bill

Perfect - he says that this is exactly the symptoms he's dealt with before. On 4 cars now as it happens, all where an SDx was used to set the PIS.

He has just said 3-4 days to turn around from when he receives the TCU.

Well its been a bit over two weeks since we concluded that a “confused” gearbox ecu (or tcu if you prefer) was the likely culprit. There have been at least 4 remote sessions with the factory, the arrival of an SD3 from the dealer in Cannes, and for all that the input of the FChat community is what has put us on the path to a solution. At present, my tcu is at the factory in Maranello in the lab for troubleshooting, the purpose of which is to try to understand why the firmware is getting corrupted - fixing the tcu would be a bonus but was not promised. The last 599 tcu that was in stock at the factory was also sent over to the technical support lab where it will be loaded with the OTO firmware effectively changing the part #236507 into the OTO tcu #237026 which will then be installed into my car. I am hoping that by the end of next week we may have some resolution to this long saga.

I have learned alot of the parts supply of the 599/612 in the past weeks. One thing is for sure, there are no CFC301 based tcu’s in stock for any model and no apparent timeline for future availability. If you try to order one from Eurospares, they will come back 24 hours later with “NLA”.

If the factory does not repair my tcu I will send it for out for private repair to create a working spare.

Took the long planned trip with the SUV rather than the 612 over the weekend…

Well, as we enter the 3rd month of "Can RACE Change a Clutch", the factory returned my gearbox ecu and sent their own SD3 to the dealer - it all arrived yesterday. But as we are in "you can't make it up territory", they forget to send the cables to connect the SD3 to the car, and of course, the dealer doesn't have one. So we are patiently waiting on another emergency shipment.

I can't wait to see what next weeks instalment brings.
