There's probably going to be some wild demand for this. Porsche can't even fulfill the 718 Spyder list it has now which at this point has been discontinued; resulting in many on lists getting their deposits back. A shame too as the spyder is the only variant of the Boxster that I like primarily due to it's design and in very close second due to the flat six.

Cool car, but the electric future does make me a bit sad.

Given the minimal top design, price, and pdk only, I think spyder stick shift is peak Boxster. But this is sti'll very cool choice if live in dry climate. Bet many will pay $300k for one

I'm lukewarm on this car. I covet Spyders and like that they're getting the "GT RS" treatment with all the attendant technological wizardry, but look at 493hp with a PDK gearbox and can't help but think: this is just too much for the street.

I sort of agree with that, depending on how much faster it is than the current version. Test drove a 2016 manual spyder and I might have wanted a little more power or urgency (coming from an F430), but not too much more. Haven’t driven a 718 Spyder so I’m not sure how that differs.

It will be nice to have this package on a small, great looking convertible though. What are your other options for a topless, high performance car of this size? Even the 911 has become a big car.

I am not convinced that there won't be ICE versions. Maybe it is just special editions but I don't buy the all electric future.

Porsche has produced about 500 examples of the Cayman GT4 race car. I would think they would need a production version with the ICE motor for homologation purposes.

Porsche customer racing is a big deal to them.

Remember that the 2015 Boxster and 2016 Cayman were THE FINAL versions with the flat 6.......... until they weren't.

    EXACTLY

Remember when the GT3 was PDK only and the manual transmission was dead?

Nice as this is, deman can swap motor w stick and real top for less cost. And z06 is still more epic motor w broader range abilities. No way is this worth 300k. Pure lunacy

A 2019 speedster is better in every single way and basically a drop top RS with a Stick

We own a Speedster and overall, you are correct the Speedster is a GT3. Not a GT3 RS. Having driven a 991.2 RS extensively I assure you that the RS is way more direct, responsive, and hardcore than the Speedster. The extra bits that the RS cars bring to the table are significant.

We are getting a Spyder RS to keep the Speedster company in the garage...both GT Silver.

Interesting point. 911 always gets top billing so I guess top Boxster needs be 100k less than speedster? What do you think? Plus there will be a 992 speedster too

992 Speedster will have an MSRP of close to $400k. Optioned cars will be $400+ (as will the Porsche 911 ST) Market pricing will be MSRP + $150k. Assuming they make as few of those as they did the 991.2 Speedster expect the 991 Speedster to be $525-550k.
Inflation has changed all the rules. Don't expect any sort of downward value adjustments. We are in a new world. The average US home is $425k. In the late 80s, an average home was 150k. The MSRP on a new 911 is around $130k (T model, no options). That is a 3x ratio of Porsche 911 MSRP to the average US home cost. In the late 80s, the ratio was 4x. It is possible that car prices have yet to increase to match the new pricing (inflation) paradigm. Other asset markets are quickly catching up. If there was going to be an asset value crash it would have happened by now. Again, inflation has changed ALL the rules.
If you follow this (admittingly shaky logic) a Spyder RS or a Speedster is going to certainly increase in value beyond MSRP. If you can't get one of these things for MSRP or close...do it. Zero downside and in all likelihood you will make money if you were to sell.

OH, and the 718 GT4 RS was declared SUPERIOR to the 992 GT3 by many car rags. The GT4RS and now the Spyder have made the 911 > 718 paradigm is outdated. 718s are what 911s were. The 911 is now what the 928 was. (sorry, it's true)

PS I have a 992 Touring...a 991.2 Speedster and soon a 718 Spyder RS. I love all of them, but I am doing my best to be objective.

no matter how much enthusiasts try to deny it, a car is a status symbol and i dont see how you can pay 300k (adm) for a car that everyone will think is a 75k baby porsche for people who cant afford a 911.
