Hi, I'm new here. Looking for input and opinions on your ownership experience. We have had a BMW 335is coupe for 10 years now and with 107,000 miles on her we are looking at a new to us fun ride to join it in the garage along with a 2010 A6 3.0T Avant and our ever being worked on 2009 Suburban. I wrench on my cars but have a guy to take stuff to as needed. I do like to work my vehicles but I do take care of them and I think that's why the two Germans have been pretty dang Honda reliable. Seriously. We've done 143k in the Audi so far, its a life timer as well. The Suburban is another story, ugh. We haven't had a car payment in 5 years and I'm in no hurry to have another but it's inevitable. I have read that the 2012 and later cars are better built? We would be looking for a GTS 2012-2016 maybe. Other than the gravity powered headliners and seizing dip sticks, crazy as that last one sounds, are there any other things to look out for? I have read about the cam variator as well and I believe the years I'm looking at don't have that problem, correct me if I'm wrong please. The other car she wants to look at is a 911 which I'm down with but think the GTS, while looking very tasty, also seems more fun. We just decided to start looking at new rides and this car is at the top of the list. How much have you enjoyed yours?

I have a 2012 GTS and like it. The infotainment system on models before 2018 is very archaic but it can be upgraded (replaced) with a unit that supports CarPlay and front/rear cameras. The exhaust music is fantastic!

I bought my 2014 new and have enjoyed every mile. It has been 100% bulletproof. These cars are great bargains today. Buy the best one you can find.

That exhaust note is a real draw. I definitely want to wring one of those V8's necks for sure, it sounds intoxicating. Head unit swap is no big deal for me. I've done custom sound in a lot of my cars although the V8 in those is the music. I think next month we will start test driving cars. I'm glad my wife has turned into the gearhead she has become. The 335is is going to be used for some standing mile runs next year. A bucket list item for us is to drive the Silver State Classic in Nevada.

She's the jam. We've taken turns supporting each other to better our situation through the years, I'm in between jobs now dealing with Lumbar facet joint issues. I'm 49 and should have another 30-40 years to master a new craft. Before I quit working, she didn't work for 6 years during 5 of those she got a bachelos degree and a masters then covid hit.... I have an awesome partner, I'm lucky. Obviously we don't have kids to be so flexible, just big ass dogs.

I've done that 4 times and my wife rode along for one time. She was so excited at the end of it that she wanted to fornicate on the spot afterwards. Be prepared !
It's not a casual event though. Back then 1990 the requirements were far more lax on safety. I think now you're car has to be fully race prepared if you want to really fast. To be honest, we had more fun in terms long term high speed driving on the way into Ely via highway 50 from SF that on the actual race. But I don't know what that road is like now in terms of condition, traffic and police. I had no trouble doing 150 for almost an hour other than the empty gas tank LOL!

I've seen people killed at this race, so know that's a possibility. We used to drive the route a day or two before to make notes but ... the authorities know this as well and if you're caught doing it at high speed that can mean automatic disqualification.
Also, in the car I drove my tires increased in diameter enough that my mileage notes for turns quickly didn't match. You have to count the turns instead. A turn, even a very slight one, @ 150 is way different than @ 65-80. I got surprised once.

Have fun, be careful and prepare.
