355 F355 /348 Evaporator Unit Upper Foam Gasket

My guess is its a straight piece, fitted around a jig and heated to take shape. The corners absolutely look like straight piece curved. 100% sure if I used Frostking and did it and posted both side by side it would be tricky to say what is factory and what is not.

The corners on Mikes pic 100% look like straight piece curved as opposed to being stamped out to shape then adhesive added.

I can tell you this.... my factory foam on my 1990TS looks nothing like that "strip" in Mikes picture.

 

For sure my '89 looks nothing like anything I've posted...it's HD weatherstripping.

I almost think the profile looks like this on the "factory" pics I posted, but that could be years of squish.

It appears to be cut from a sheet. Single piece. Self adhesive foam with thin harder rubber layer on top.

 

Could be sure. The one on my car from the factory yes. The one in the pic... I'm skeptical.

The filter is aftermarket.

Mike, I have the one piece seal from an old cracked evaporator cover that is still in nice, soft condition and even has most all of it's original sticky adhesive still on it. If you want it for the cost of shipping, it is yours.

Haha! I didn't consider that but I suspect you are correct.

 

They're probably all the same colour. The variation is due to photo lighting conditions and age, to a lesser extent.

Look at the colour of my evaporator unit. Is it black or grey? Are there two different types of evaporator unit?

You made me blink. I just rechecked the colour and I would say it was black or very, very dark grey (charcoal). My camera is washing out the colours, due to the blackness of my frunk liner and evaporator affecting the exposure levels.

 

Because I can't be any more wrong in my assumptions this thread (or my internet picture arguing...sorry everyone), I bought a good cover with an OE black foam piece. it's actually nicer than what I have in my car currently.

The foam:
it's black/ dark charcoal
it's one piece

I'll see what I can do about getting reproductions made. Anyone have interest?
