Over the years there have been quite a few books about Wolfgang von Trips, all of them in German. Hopefully, sooner or later, someone will do something in English or, perhaps, in a multilingual edition.

Multilingual as in bilingual is a very bad idea, you either end up with a watered down much shorter text or a huge book half the text in which is by definition useless. I won't even mention trilingual ones.

I couldn't have said it better myself. This is particularly true of some publishers who decide to put the text in English in a less readable typography, as if they had to punish those who don't read the original language... (quite systematic with the Italians...).

Not to mention the lamentable translations done on the cheap by guys who don't understand anything about cars or technical terms, ending up with texts as comical as those in the manuals of low-end electronic products... Taschen or teNeues have made a specialty of this.

Twenty years ago I was interviewed for a club magazine by the type of car enthusiast entirely into tinkering and concours but totally ignorant about racing. He was actually a nuclear engineer...

    I had mentioned Senna.

His transcript when I verified the text before publication read Erich von Zenner...

Noooo I explained it is spelled Ayrton Senna.

The blank stare I got made me think I
might as well have spoken in Swahili.

Sadly many translators are today no more qualified than he was.

I think that rather depends on the proportion of text vs pictures etc. Two books by McKlein come to mind: The Nurburgring book I mentioned a few days ago and their Jochen Rindt biography that I mentioned here some time ago. Both are heavy on pictures and I'm quite happy to effectively be saving money by having the original German text as well as the (in their case, well) translated English. For some books (e.g. those by Giorgio Nada) it is useful to have the Italian text as well because the English translation is sometimes so bad I have to look at the Italian to make sense of it!

All of the above criticism about multilingual books is very true. Having said that, a book is better than no book. In the case of Wolfgang von Trips, given the limited interest outside of Germany, that might be the choice at hand. Or, perhaps, not, as right now there really is nothing that is not in German.

I would think and hope that someone will end up doing an English language one on Count von Trips, too worthy to be ignored. Jut my 2 c...

I do not know how it would be accepted commercially, but to me issuing a separate leaflet as a translation of a mono language book would not be a bad solution; the original book would not be artificially bigger to accommodate several languages, the publication cost would be limited and the poor uneducated people not understanding the original language would also be able to enjoy the text.
Ironically, the recent 288 GTO book presents itself with a separate leaflet for the text - although it's not a translation, but the only text available to complement what is a "pictures" only book.

Your 288 leaflet option is spot on as a perfect solution to accommodate additional languages without compromising the original book.

I have considered this in the past but in the case in hand it was too much effort for too few sales. No go.

My copy of Neill Bruce's book "50 Years with Ferraris" by EVRO Publishing arrived Friday, 12 May 2023. I had ordered on 4 May 2023.
The package was a little poor and the book arrived a bit damaged, but that's normal in today's world.
Nice little book with some fabulous pix, a big thank you to all fchatters who helped.

Did anyone ever hear anything about the alleged Ferrari book by German photographer Wolfgang Wilhelm?
