Out of interest what was the deal with U.S. Cars not having their rear lights in the rear glass panel?

Forbidden by the Washington DC bureaucracy.

Thankfully over 80 of the 155 US Khamsins have had Euro bumper conversions.

In Europe almost all US K's have been converted.

Hello everyone, I am considering buying #012 which is told to me as a prototype Khamsin and was in a motor show in Germany when new. Seller does not have many more details on car.
Car is in average to low average condition.
Starts fine but hydralic system leaks badly.
The center console is very different to any I have seen in photos before.
Does anyone have any insight into this car. It is now red and was a dark blue originally I am told.
Sorry I have no more info right now.
    Thank you.

    Hello,

The information on it is very basic after its initial spell in the old world, Italy and Germany, it has been in South Africa most of its life, it was a partly dismantled project for a long time in a small garage.
As chassis AM120-012 it is a very early car,the 4th oldest surviving after 004, 008 and 010. 002 was the prototype destroyed in the December 1973 crash test and 006 never existed.
It has autovettura number 25002 so its shell is even older than its chassis number implies. Yes it has an interior that is different from later standards.

The hydraulics are simple high pressure plumbing not rocket science, like anything on a classic that has sat for years they need to be serviced. They can be rebuilt with someone who is a competent mechanic coached by someone in Europe or the UK, All hydraulic parts are available. There are companies such as Blondeau in France who will sell you rebuilt parts after you send them the core, the old parts. Perhaps there is a Citroen SM specialist in ZA?

Plenty of expertise available here and via leading workshops in the EU.

The photos you and I show -including the added German chassis plate- are part of a set taken by an auction house a few years ago.

    What is their asking price?

    KHAMSIN CINQUANTA UPDATE

Thursday and Friday I spent 36 hours doing the recon of the tour de Jura route for the K40 road book notes with my friend Philippe M who already helped at K40 in 2012.

I am very, very happy with the mountain roads I found in the last two years as spectacular, enjoyable to drive as they are scenic..and traffic free!

I will start a weekly newsletter for participants only tomorrow which is one month to the day before K50 begins.

I am hugely happy to say that after three years of preparations and a lot of work we now have THIRTY Khamsins committed from 11 countries!!!

From as close as Geneva, 15 minutes from the host hotel to as far away as New Zealand and Denmark owners are bringing their K's for a very special four day celebration. One good friend of mine from California bought one a few weeks ago in Paris and will take part in K50, drive it all over Europe including to Le Mans 24 hours, and later to Le Mans Classic before sending it stateside.

A film will be made and two drones as well as photographers will help capture K50 for posterity:)!

Also it has to leave South Africa becuase it has never registered here when they bring it in and they have a rule that you have 2 years to register in South Africa cars brought in - and if you do not then they have to leave again and cannot be registered for the street use.

That'a giveaway price, as long as there is no rust or only very minor rust, someone needs to snap it up, it should be you:)
In Europe the ask for this price would be €80 to €120. The container cost would not be that high.

You will have a PM in a couple of minutes.

Hello guys, hope you are all well?
I have a question which I need your assistance...

I have a Khamsin with the automatic transmission. During the service it has been noted that I have the incorrect transmission dip stick (the one I have has no min / max marks?)
Would it be possible, for someone with an automatic to measure the length on the dip stick (from the collar to the tip) and the dimensions of the min / max marks from the tip?
    Most appreciated guys.

    Best regards,
    Richard

    Hello Richard,

I have just asked the owner of the only other automatic coming to K50 for help, he will send photos of the stick next to a tape measure today or tomorrow.

For my 10 cents worth, I really depends what you want to do with the car.

If you want to repair the hydraulics and enjoy it then I would snap it up.

If you want to do a full restoration then the car will always take more money than you want to put in and take 3 times as long as you thought.

Either way, I think it’s an outstanding opportunity and you should take the plunge. That is a bargain for such a significant car

    Hahaha domo arigato:).

Photo of line up during K40 visit and lunch at Abbaye de Fontenay, June 15 2012.

The white car with chrome bumper on page 2 is the first prototype 002, destroyed December 1973 in the mandatory crash test.

We have THIRTY K's coming to K50 from ELEVEN countries in two weeks:D Very happy after a lot of work!

    Hope you come visit!

Great! So we will be having our concours at Coppet on the saturday afternoon 12:00 to 17:00, we won't have lunch we are having brunch instead, up in the Jura that morning.
I think you can pre book lunch at the concours, see the website. Otherwise you could book a table at a lakeside restaurant in Nyon such as O'les terrasses du lac, probably nicer.

    https://www.olesterrassesdulac.ch/

...or with easier parking on the smaller lac de Divonne in Divonne les Bains (F) 10 minutes from the concours:

    https://www.la-table-du-lac.com/

Had dinner there 2 weeks ago very nice.
