Is Russian military aviation really this bad?

Don't forget, the ocean floor is pretty well littered with their submarines and for the most part had no help getting there.
Back ups and safety margins don't seem to be of much value to them.

 

Russian planes are much less likely to crash than American ones. However, they fly much more often.

 

Well, they certainly seem to be falling from the sky a lot more these past two years.

Pretty sure you’ve got that exactly backwards.

 

At the current rate of advancement, it would take Russia 200 years to conquer all of Ukraine. Yet in the last year, Russia has lost 25% of it's forces. The math is not looking good for Russia.

I’m amused at those of you who think Putin is the new Hitler. The USSR was a failed state. Russia is a failed state. Please ponder these two datapoints:

1. Russia’s GDP is $1.8 trillion.
2. Texas’s GDP is $2.3 trillion.

If things keep going the way they are going, Vermont’s GDP of $40 billion will be higher than Russia.

The only thing Russia has is nukes that may or may not work.

Well while I agree for the most part, Hitler never had WMDs as hard as he tried. Putin does and seems bent on some level of restoration of the USSR or like the old saying goes "or die trying". I am not sure if immense wealth or a legacy is more important to him but not crazy to find out. I suppose that kind of defines what we referred to as "The Cold War".

I really like the idea of being seen as the biggest, baddest ass kid on the block. It scares off most of the kids who otherwise want to try you on but for too many years between DC and the Pentagon such huge resources have just been wasted it scares me to death to trust them with any money or decision making. At this point in my life I'll just keep my head down and my powder dry and hope no one does anything too stupid until I am pushing up daisy's.

Um, no. If their jets were maintained well, they would be on par in terms of reliability, but that ship has sailed. Based on last years events it’s obvious the Russian Air Force falls short in terms of tactics and training.

 

From 2013 to 2018, the US military aviation lost 157 aircraft of various types and 198 pilots in 6 thousand accidents. The cost of the lost aircraft was $9.4 billion. In 2019-2020, another 29 aircraft were lost, resulting in the death of another 26 pilots. The cost of damage was $2.25 billion.

In general, for the period 2013-2020, non-combat losses of US military aircraft amounted to 186 aircraft and 224 pilots, and the cost of lost aircraft reached $11.6 billion. This is reported in the report of the National Commission on military aviation safety (National Commission on Military Aviation Safety) dated December 1, which was presented to the President and the US Congress.

In 2020, there were 72 incidents with military aircraft in the United States. Thirteen of the 72 accidents resulted in injury or death. Of these, there were 29 class A accidents, including 23 manned aircraft incidents and six unmanned aircraft incidents.
Class A incidents are those in which Department of Defense aircraft are destroyed or the total accident damage exceeds $2.5 million, or where a person is killed or permanently disabled.

In Russia, there were only two class A incidents according to the American system.

Andrey- What a load of crap. There is no reliable data on Russian accident rates. Pilots in Russia, dating all the way back to the USSR, flew much less than US pilots and tactical training as simple as BFM, was woefully backward. Stop with the propaganda.

 

I have given your data from the reports of your experts to your Congress.
