Will do. Certain bottles have had corks that seem to let too much air in. the bottles are losing all their taste. Have you experienced this? I have some G4 that essentially tastes like water after being opened and 3/4 full. When it was first opened, it tasted perfect.
I think I had this happen to a bottle of Tequila Ocho Anejo. There was condensation build up on the inside and the taste wasn't great after the first time I opened it. Never had that happen with Fortaleza but I think its common with them since they are real corks and their process is more manual. I'm surprised you had that with a G4 bottle since I thought their corks were more like rubber stoppers.
The G4 thing was surprising with the synthetic cork. Nothing like the Three Tears stopper. Always keeps it fresh.
I was gifted a pallet that can detect all the different flavors. I used to collect red wine but it started giving me bad headaches and hangovers. Tequila became the next interest and doesn’t give me nearly as much trouble as red wine. The nuances of high end tequila are really interesting and enjoyable. The agave and barrel flavors are amazing to me. The tequila buzz is also an upper rather than a downer. I love it !
I probably don’t have the palate you do but I am a wine and tequila person/collector. Now my friends are starting to get me into bourbon
100% agree. I also love wine but can't drink more than a glass or I have the same problem. Try the tequila I posted above. It's my new go-to.
After attending UGA, couldn’t even smell bourbon for 30 yrs. I recently have been able to enjoy it, but it gives me a stomach ache every time for some reason.
I've been a tequila sipper ever since my mother in law use to smuggle me bottles across the border decades ago. When I first got into Ferraris a local airline pilot and Ferrari owner told me about going to estates in Mexico and passing a bottle through the gates to be returned filled with Tequila. Lately I've been more into Mezcals for the variety of smoky flavors.
Just cracked this for the first time tonight. Once it breaths a bit, it’s amazing. Tons of flavors going on. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Same here. Most of my sippers stay in the $50-100 range but I have a feeling I may bust through that soon. The Tears of Llorona has captured my attention
I’m hesitant to promote some of these being afraid they’ll disappear like Forteleza. Tears of Llorona pretty much beats them all in complexity and overall incredible flavor. Swish it around in your mouth with air and the flavors explode.
Yep. These things are getting expensive. But just sipping makes them last awhile. Just say, “I’m worth it !”
Here’s another detailed review on the G4 Extra Anejo 6yr. Always fun to read about the cool things some of these smaller distilleries are doing!
Decided to give the Wild Common Blanco Still Strength another try tonight. Bought and tasted for the first time a few weeks ago and didn’t enjoy the higher proof. Tonight was much different and I really enjoyed it. The higher proofs just require some extra patience to open up and more thought while looking for the notes. I read the following review while tasting: https://www.sipoutsider.com/news/wild-common-still-strength-blanco-review/ Image Unavailable, Please Login
I’ve been looking to try the Wild Common but haven’t been able to find it yet. I see the El Tesoro Single Barrel next to it. I had one a couple years ago by them called Pure Agave. It was delicious and never to be found again. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve started to see Wild Common at Total Wine. Pretty sure both of mine came from a smaller liquor store that has a good selection of tequila. That single barrel bottle is empty but it was tasty. I have another speciality pick done for the local tequila club somewhere back in that stack. Really can’t go wrong with El Tesoro.
