I am seeking out a driver condition for a private client of mine.

He is a discreet collector who is specifically looking for a driver condition 330 GTC.

    Non-red preferred.

Scruffier than nicer would best describe the desired overall condition.

Good records without blemishes would be preferred.

Ready to go for the right car, and figure a ballpark in consideration to be anywhere from $400-600K

NOT looking for a perfect car.

    Thanks!

Wow, that's a great looking car! I've been looking for a 3+ to 2 condition 330 GTC. I wonder what the market value of a nice 365 like that is these days?

I think I'd be scared to drive it. I tend to drive my Ferraris at least a few thousand miles a year, rain or shine. I do however keep them in top condition (I'm fortunate to have a local friend who is a Ferrari Master Technician).

I'd guess Tom's deep into the $700's-800+ range.

Drove my 330GTC over 20,000 kms between 2009 and 2013 and would do the same again. It really benefited from my frequent and hard driving. It was a much better car in 2010 than in 2009, and classic Ferraris do not like standing still. The 330GTC is a real gem, a true driver's car that taught me how to change my driving style so I could keep up with 360 Modena's on the mountain passes of Switzerland. She made me a much more competent driver. I really miss that car.

In response to the OP - I think what you are looking for does not exist, in this market. And I would always buy the very best (as I did in 2009). If you can't afford it, then a restoration project but those are very scarce these days as well, and require a lot of patience. A "driver condition" Ferrari is so rare these days when you can make $300k more by spending $80k.Basically you have to know somebody who is aging or dying and jump in before a professional cuts in.

    Thanks Onno.

The emphasis is really on a squared away mechanically sound car, that may have 2+ paint, or shabbier exterior/patina exterior, NOT a show car or really nice driver quality paint. I think in that budget it's do able, but also agree FINDING that car may come down to the exact scenario you explain, and something before one of the dealers gets a whiff and snaps it up.

Great info here guys. I'll start my own thread since my parameters are a bit different and I don't want to highjack this thread. Good luck Mr. Muffin-Tops!

What do you think it would cost to re-paint a GTC in a different color? Might be a pertinent issue if the OP finds a car in red.

I know the owner of a mechanically sound 330.....but it's red.

Yes. I know the owner and have seen the car. We make contact every once in a while.

He tried to sell it at an auction on Cars on 5th weekend but didn't make a deal. I think it's still available.

Realistically, a proper paint job would not be cost effective (to do it right, I would budget $75-90K) BUT, I think he would live with red, it's just not preferred.

$75-90k? Yikes!! I would have guessed $50k would do a nice job. But it's been a long time since I had a car painted.

My guy just finished a custom Bronco for a customer. THAT was well over $50K and that came to him disassembled. There are shops out there that will paint a Ferrari and etc. for much less than $50K, but the prep work is usually subbed out and sub par, they will use cheaper clear, and minimal buffing.

My E30 took 8 days of buffing after paint and that’s a short amount of time!

My friend in Naples still has his red 330 GTC. Mechanically it's in very good condition. Paint is okay but not great. He said he is still willing to sell it. If you would like I can PM you his contact info. He doesn't want to go public with listing it anywhere....including FChat.

Yep. Met him a couple of times. Know the guy who has garages on each side of him. We met up in April when we were visiting Dave’s garages. He took my son for a ride in the 330. As described.

Painting such a car , is not just sand and tape and spray..
This caliber of car demands a bare metal respray...and I would put that price at $100,000.00 done right.
Then you have equity if you resell!

    Wow.....100k?

I have not had a car painted [76 BB] since the early 80s. Don't plan on doing it anytime soon. I acquire cars that someone else has made or kept in good condition. No restorations planned in my future.
